“You guys can’t do this to me?” you said between sobs. Your mascara was all over your face.
“Stop crying like that and get ready. We know what’s best for you.”
Your mother yelled at you as she locked the door from outside.
‘How could she do something like this to her own daughter.’ You thought to yourself.
You belonged to a conservative middle class family. You had begged your parents to let you go study at Yonsei University but when you came back home after four years, this is what awaited you. An arrange marriage to your neighbor’s son. He was a druggie and a pervert. Your parents didn’t know that of course. They thought he was an angel sent from heaven for you. He had offered to take your hand into marriage without making any demands.
The door opened again and two girls came in. They dragged you to the bathroom, washed your face and readjusted your makeup.
“There, there,” one of them patted your head. “You’re ready and you look beautiful.”
She leaned in a little closer to you and said, grinding her teeth,” If you mess up your makeup one more time, you will have to bear the consequences.”
You didn’t expect any sympathy from her; after all she was the groom’s sister.
Your father came to get you. There it was the moment everybody had been waiting for, and the one you dreaded. You looked at people smiling at you as you walked down the aisle. The ladies whispered into each other’s about how pretty your dress looked and how lucky you were. Little did they know how hard you were trying to fight your tears. Suddenly the lights went out. A typical middle class wedding problem. This was your chance. This was your chance to runaway and get away from all this. You could be free. You didn’t think about it. You didn’t think about where you were going to go or what you were going to do. You freed yourself from your father’s firm grip and ran.
“____________, come back!” he yelled. There was chaos everywhere.
You ran without looking behind. Several guys came running after you. You had no idea where you were going. You just kept running. You didn’t care what the people would think seeing a girl in a bridal dress running. You were just looking forward to your freedom.
It had been an hour and you were still moving forward. You were exhausted now. You looked around for water but you couldn’t find any.
“Hey,” suddenly someone yelled from behind. It was them; they were still running after you. You started running again and turned around to look. That’s when you hit the pole.
*****************************************
Your surrounding weren’t familiar when you woke up. You weren’t in your wedding dress anymore. you were wearing long saggy pants and a loose t-shirt. Your head still hurt from hitting the pole. You tried to get up but failed.
“Hey, hey hey, don’t get up,” a guy came in the room.
“Who are you?” you asked.
“Dongho,” he replied.
“I don’t know you,” you said closing your eyes hoping the pain would go away.
“I saw you run into a pole. A bunch of guys were running after you so I picked you up and brought you here.”
“Gomawo,” you said as you drifted back to sleep.
When you next woke up, it was dark outside. You got out of bed and walked out of the room. Dongho was on the roof.
“Are you feeling better?” he asked without turning around.
“Yeah,” you said tiredly.
“Would you like to explain yourself now?” he asked.
The memory of your wedding day started coming back to you. You started crying. Dongho panicked and helped you sit down.
“It’s okay, we don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want too.” He said.
“No, it’s okay, I can talk about it.” You said. He deserved at least this much since he had saved your life. You told him how your parents forced you into getting married to your neighbor and how you ran away.
“I must say, I admire your courage,” he said.
“Yeah, but now what? I don’t have a place to live! I don’t have a job. I don’t have anything. What am I going to do?” you asked him, knowing he didn’t have an answer for you.
“I have an idea,” he said with a smile. You could see something was cooking up in his head.
“What?” you asked.
“Do you want your parents to forgive you?” he asked.
“Of course” you replied eagerly.
“Okay then how about you and I fake our marriage and go up to them and tell them that we are married. Sure they will be mad at you for a while but they are your parents. They will forgive you. They will always love you and at least this way they’ll know you’re safe. Then when we get back I can help you find a job and you can move on with your life,” he said.
You thought for a while, “It’s not as easy as it seems,” you finally said.
“It will be trust me! Now come on let’s eat something. You barely ate anything in the past 2 days.”
The two of you were sitting at the dinner table but you were lost in your thoughts. You still weren’t sure if you wanted to go along with the plan.
“How will we prove to them that we are married?” you asked.
He looked up at you while sucking in a noodle, “I was thinking we could take some pictures with you and me in a wedding dress and tux and show it to them. I know a friend who can make a fake marriage certificate and then we will be all done.”
You didn’t want to reply. This was a lot of information for you to handle at a time. After dinner the two of you decided to watch a movie to take your mind off of the previous day’s events.
*********************************************
When you woke up the next morning you found your head resting on Dongho’s chest. You quickly pulled away and curled up in the corner of the couch. He looked so peaceful as he slept. You were staring at him with your head slightly tilted to the right. Were you attracted to him. You didn’t know. You didn’t want to think about any such things for now.
He yawned as he woke up. “So are you ready for the plan?” he asked.
“Yeah. So where’s my dress?” you asked.
“I threw it away,” he said casually.
“You WHAT?” you yelled in disbelief.
“Yeah, it was all muddy and ripped. What were you going to do with it?” he asked narrowing his eyebrows. “We can just rent a new one form the shop down the street.”
You couldn’t help but marvel at his creativity and quickness.
******************************************************
“So do you like this one?” you asked as you tried the third dress on.
“Nah, too fluffy,” he replied. “How about something more sleek? Something that will show your beautiful figure.”
You started blushing. The comment didn’t seem odd to you at all.
“Here try this one!” he grabbed one for you from the corner.
You tried it on and sure enough it was perfect. You came out of the fitting room to show it to him. He was wearing his tux. He was stunned. You looked beautiful. His looks were making you blush. He smiled and shook his head. “Let’s go,” he said offering you his hand.
The two of you went to a studio, got your pictures taken and took the fake certificate from Dongho’s friend. Your next destination was your parent’s house.
*********************************************
“I am scared,” you said as the two of you stood outside the front door.
“Just hold my hand and you’ll be fine,” he said reassuringly.
You knocked on the door. Your mother came out.
“What are you doing over here?” she asked with a disgusted look on her face. She looked Dongho up and down and turned around shutting the door.
“Um ma, please listen to me!” you called after her. “Just this once.” You said fighting your tears. She was your mother after all. She let you in.
You and Dongho sat your parent down and showed them the pictures and the certificate.
“I am sorry I had to do it this way.” You said while sobbing. “I didn’t have a choice. He’s a druggie abuji, Um ma. Believe me. Have I ever not obeyed you guys? I always have but this was wrong. I ran away because I loved Dongho. I didn’t tell you guys because I knew it would hurt you but when I was walking down the aisle, I realized that I couldn’t live without him. I had to go.” You held your father’s hand.
“I am so sorry,” you said and buried your face in his lap. Moments later he patted your hair. You quickly looked up.
“I forgive you,” he said with a kind smile on his face. “Nobody is going to cry now okay!” he said. Everybody wiped their tears. “But I will say that I want you guys to be married in front of your mom and I. Your marriage is all what we have dreamed of ever since you were little. Don’t you think we deserve that?” he asked.
You turned around and looked at Dongho with shock. You couldn’t do this to him. He had already done enough for you. You couldn’t force him to get married to you. But he seemed perfectly calm. You were confused. As your parents left the room to get everything ready you quickly turned around and started apologizing.
“I am so sorry about this. I don’t know what to do!,” you said pulling your hair.
“Just relax okay. Everything will be fine,” he said and hugged you.
Your mother came in the room and dragged you out so you could get ready. You were devastated. This is not what you wanted. You did not want to take advantage of a person who had done so much for you. Deep inside you were happy, because you liked him but that didn’t mean, he was happy. You knew what it felt like to be forced into an arrange marriage. You didn’t want that to happen to him.
Once again, you were wearing a white dress. Your dad walked into the room, “Are you ready honey?” he asked.
“Could you give me a minute?” you asked.
“Sure,” he said and left.
Suddenly the door opened again.
“Dad I told you I need,” you stopped as you turned around and saw Dongho standing in front of you.
“Dongho, I am so sorry. I’ll run away again if you want me t…”
“Shhhhhhhh,” he said and came closer to you. The two of you stared into each other’s eyes. You didn’t want to let go of him but you knew you had too. He lifted his hand to reveal a small note.
“Here, read it,” he said and quickly left the room.
You opened the note and read,’ Let’s get married for real, this time’
A smile appeared on your face as you closed the note and clutched it tightly in your hand. You were getting married and this time it was for real!

Aaaaa anon I am so sorry. When I was half way done with this I looked at your request again and I realized that you had asked for the girl to run away from a date and not her own wedding. I had written so much that I didn’t want to go back and start all over again. Sorry about that.
Anyways I hope you still like :) If you don’t feel free to tell me :)
