Your Wish Is My Command

Vow [Suho]

Requested by anon

You turned around to look at the clock once again. 1: 05 am. Just then the door clicked open and Suho entered the apartment. He guessed you were asleep and so tip toed into the room.

“Why are you still up? he asked with a surprised look on his face.

“I always stay up late and wait for you, you just don’t know it,” you said turning. Your back was facing him now.

Suho sighed and stood there for a while trying to think of what to say but nothing came up. He eventually gave up and walked into the bathroom. Three years ago when you guys got married, if Suho made the same mistake, he would slide in the bed besides you and shower you with kisses. He would then make his cute little puppy dog face and tickle you till you forgave him. You missed that. For some reason it just wasn’t the same any more. It wasn’t that both of you weren’t trying. You were but something felt like it was missing.

Suho came out of the bathroom and quietly slid in bed besides you. He covered his head under the sheets and before you knew it, he was in deep sleep.

You didn’t bother getting out of bed and making breakfast because every time you did Suho never ate. He was always in a hurry in the mornings.

“__________ah, are you not making breakfast?” Suho asked while putting on his shirt.

You didn’t respond but got up to make it for him. You kept looking at the door of your room to see when Suho would come out. If he’d made you get out of bed to make breakfast than he’d better eat it too. What you didn’t know was that his manager had called him and they were discussing something important.

He finally came out of the room in a rush still on the phone. “Hey, I’ll see you tonight okay?” he said and left.

You couldn’t believe it. Did he really just do that to you? You were mad, really mad but you controlled it. Both you and Suho had a very calm personality. You guys didn’t like interfering into each other’s matters. You never fought either. If something bothered you or him, you would talk it out. You took a deep breath and settled down on the couch. Just like all the other days, you ate breakfast by yourself.

******************************************************

Your eyes were fixed at the TV screen.  You didn’t know that Suho had entered the house and was now standing in the living room looking at you.

“Ahem ahem,” he cleared his throat making you jump.

“Oh when did you get here?” you asked clenching your fist close to your heart.

“Just a while ago. Why are you still up? It’s getting late.”

“I was just watching this movie. It’s really interesting.” You said with a smile on your face. He came and sat beside you. He soon got bored of the movie and turned on his laptop.

“_________ah, turn down the volume. Umma is calling on skype.” You pouted but didn’t let him see it and turned the volume down.

“Suhooooo,” his mom said cheerfully as her face popped on the screen.

“Anneyong Umma,”

“Annyeong. Where is _________?” she asked.

“She’s right here.” He said pulling you towards him so you could fit into the camera too. A big smile appeared on your mother in law’s face.

“So, what are you guys doing today?” she asked. Her face was so lit up as if she was expecting something big from you guys. You didn’t quite understand and neither did Suho.

“Nothing, just sitting around watching TV,” he replied.

“TV? Is that your idea of a special night?” she asked.

“Special night?” he repeated with confusion clearly visible on his face.

“Oh God, you guys, don’t mess around with me,” she chuckled. “It’s your wedding anniversary today. I’m sure Suho has something secretly planned for you,” she said and winked at you.

“Ahhh yeah,” both you and Suho said nervously and forced a laugh.

“We have to go now, actually,” he said.

“Annyeong,” she waved through the screen. You guys waved back and Suho immediately turned off the computer. Both you and Suho looked at each other and the quickly looked away. You couldn’t imagine you guys had forgotten your own anniversary. It was embarrassing. Suho shifted sides and sat in silence. You didn’t know what to do either so you got up and went into the room. You’d pretended that it didn’t bother you in front of him but as soon as you sat down on your bed, tears came rolling out of your eyes like a waterfall.

What was missing? You kept asking yourself that question. You missed the old him and the old you when you guys laughed together, talked for hours at night, went out for dinners. He would occasionally surprise you with flowers or take you to one of his practices. Why had all of that changed? Why had the two of you slowly started to drift apart? Why didn’t he smile at you before going to sleep and why had you lost all the motivation to cook for him, dress nicely for him or at least make an effort to ask him what was wrong. Had you guys gotten married too early or were you just not right for each other. Your heart sank at the thought of that. You knew that out all the things that you didn’t know, you knew one thing for sure and that was that you loved him.

Suho came into the room after a long time. You were still sitting on the bed. You quickly wiped your tears and turned your face the other way. He sat beside you but kept his eyes fixed on the ground.

“What’s gotten into us ________,” he said, his voice sounding tired.

“I don’t know!” you whispered back.

Both you and him stayed quiet. This was the problem. Neither him nor you, knew what to say. You could see that he was playing with his fingers. That’s what he did when he was nervous. Was he thinking of something to say to you?

“I don’t think we should be together anymore,” he said.

“What?” you gasped. You were trying hard to make sense out of his words.

Suho nodded and turned around to face you. He held your hands. “We don’t have that spark anymore,” he said. You could see how hurt he was too. He didn’t want to say it but even he knew that there was something missing. You wanted to say something and this time you were actually going to make an effort but your tongue refused to move. There were definitely some problems but this is not how you wanted to end it.

Suho got up. His hands slipped out of yours. He grabbed a pillow and walked out of the room.

**************************************************

The next two days passed quickly. Neither of you exchanged a single word. A couple of glances here and there but that was it.

“Here,” he said handing some papers to you one morning.

You looked at them and then back at him knowing exactly what they were. You’d secretly cried enough the past two nights. You remained calm and took them from him.

“All you need to do is sign them and don’t worry this apartment will remain yours. I’ll move out,” he said without looking at you.

“There’s no need for that,” you paused for a little while. “I’m going back to Busan.”

Suho’s heart sank. He didn’t quite know why. He was leaving you anyways so why did it matter where you went.

“Why didn’t you tell me before?” he asked.

“I wasn’t sure until last night,” you replied taking the papers from his hand.

**********************************************************

“What’s wrong?” Kris asked placing his head on Suho’s shoulder.

“Nothing’s wrong. Why would you say that?” Suho tried to sound defensive.

“You don’t really seem into the practice today.” Kris scanned Suho’s face.

“I’m fine,” he said with an annoyed face and turned around. Kris was surprised at his reaction but didn’t want to say anything. Suho sat down in the corner and buried his head in his hands while resting his elbow on his knees.

An image appeared in his head. It was a girl sitting by the window. She used to sit there every day at 5 o clock and read a book. She would look out the window occasionally and smile at the birds singing on the tree branches. Giggle a little and tuck her hair behind her ear. She would then go back to reading her book. That girl was you. Suho used to watch you do that every day. You lived on the road he used to take to go back to his dorm. He would watch you smile while reading the book. It was this smile he had fallen for, it was that tucking of the hair behind your ear and that giggle that had made him fall head over heels for you.

“Oh my God! What am I doing?” Suho said to himself and suddenly looked up. Everybody turned around and looked at him.

“I need to go. I’m sorry,” he said getting up and ran out of the room.

“_________, please don’t go. Please don’t go.” He kept repeating to himself while driving.

*******************************************************

You looked around the room one more time. You’d lived in this room for a long time. You thought it was going to be yours forever. Your heart felt heavy and your legs seemed weak. Your eyes were burning. You closed them and took a step dragging the bag with one hand and holding the divorce papers in the other. It was a good thing Suho wasn’t there. If you saw him, you would have broken down instantly.

“______________,” Suho called your name as loud as he could. He didn’t wait for a response but ran inside. You were stunned by his sudden appearance. He came forward and hugged you tightly.

“Please don’t leave. Please don’t” he said while shaking his head.

“It’s too late now,” you said pulling away. You lifted your hand to give him the papers.

“These papers don’t mean anything, they…”

“Yes they do Suho, It’s..”

“They don’t. _________ please!” he said embracing you once again. “I can’t believe I was about to make the biggest mistake of my life. I don’t know what happened to me. I wasn’t thinking straight. I should have tried to think of a solution. We could have talked instead I said something really stupid. I can’t do this, you can’t do this.” He knew his words weren’t making sense at all but all he wanted to do was to stop you from leaving. “________ please don’t leave me. I love you, always have and always will.” He tightened his arms around you to the point that it hurt. You liked it. You hadn’t been this close to him in forever. He suddenly pulled away and took the papers out of your hands. The next second, it was on the floor torn into thousands of pieces. He shook his head as tears rolled out of his eyes. You’d never seen him like this. He wasn’t really the one to express himself. He really had messed up this time but he was ready to fix it and you trusted him. You looked at the ground and then back at him.

You knew that if you left now you were going to regret it for the rest of your life. You took a step and then tightly wrapped your arms around him placing your head on his chest. A tear rolled down your cheek and fell on his shirt. You let out a sniffle which ran like a knife through Suho’s heart. He knew how much he’d hurt you. He kissed you on your forehead and vowed to never hurt you again. He was going to make it right no matter how long it took him.
