You poked your head from behind the wall slightly, to see if the coast was clear. Your mathematics teacher was nowhere to be seen. You looked at your watch.
“Yes..” you celebrated. The class had already started. You could totally skip it, just like all the other days. Just then somebody smacked the back of your head.
“Ouch,” you pouted and turned around. “Luhan..”
“Are you skipping class again?” he asked watching you struggle to loosen his grip on your hand.
“Obviously,” you said and shrugging his hand away.
“No! You’re coming with me today,” he said and began dragging you.
“But you know how much I hate that class. Pleaseeeee..” you whined.
“You’ve missed way too many classes. You’ll fail the class. Do you really want that?” he said sternly.
“Of course not,” you replied with a cheeky smile.
“What do you plan to do then?”
“You’ll help me on the final won’t you?” you winked at him.
“Umm No! I will not cheat. Now come on.”
No matter how much you struggled, you knew Luhan was going to win. He was good at persuasion. You’d known him for almost two years and it didn’t take the both of long to become good friends. You guys weren’t particularly ‘close’ since you did get awkward with each other sometimes. But both you and him hung out occasionally.

“This is the second time this week that the two of you are late. What’s wrong with you two?” said the professor seeing you two casually walk in.
“Mianhamnida,” Luhan apologized and took his seat. You followed close behind.
“Ms. _______,” the professor called on you soon after you settled down. “How about you solve problem no. 8 on the board.
“Huh! What problem no. 8?” you asked completely taken by surprise.
“Umm the one from the homework I assigned yesterday.”
“I wasn’t here yesterday.”
“So? Is that my problem?” the professor said angrily. You knew there was no point arguing. You got up and walked to the board. You obviously had no idea how to solve it so you just stood there staring at the problem.
“I don’t have all day,” he said impatiently looking at his watch.
“I don’t know how to do it,” you mumbled.
“Of course you wouldn’t since you’re always so busy doodling in your notebook,” he said snapping the stick he had in his hand. You jumped back to get out of range.
“Just go back to your seat,” he said grinding his teeth. You frowned to hide the embarrassment and walked back quickly. You made a quick eye contact with Luhan. He seemed to be upset.
“What’s wrong with you?” you asked.
“Why didn’t you do the homework?” he whispered.
“I didn’t come to class. How would have I known we had homework? .. Okay now help me solve this one.”
“Give it to me,” he snatched the notebook from you and started explaining. He looked up after a while only to find you staring at him.
“What?” he said as his cheeks blushed a light pink. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
You giggled. “The way you explain is so cute.”
Luhan chuckled nervously and shook his head. “Okay concentrate now. So if you add the square root of 25 to ..”
“Will you two love birds stop flirting,” the professor shouted from across the class.
“What?” you snapped.
“Oh no no, I was just explaining..”
“Detentionnnnnn!!,” the professor announced.
“What no,” both you and Luhan cried at the same time.
“I am sick and tired of your attitude in the class. Both of you need to learn some manners.”
“It wasn’t her fault,” Luhan said standing up. You held his hand and tried to pull him back but he shrugged it away. Both you and him knew that detention would look bad on your record if you wanted to go to the university of your choice.
“Luhan stop arguing with me.” The professor walked up to the two of you, handing two yellow slips. “This will teach both of you a lesson.”
“I’m sorry,” you whispered to Luhan
“Ken chan ayeo [it’s alright]” he mouthed the words before burying his head in his arms.
**********************************************
You’d reached the detention room way before Luhan. He came in with a sour face and sat beside you.
“Come on.. it’s our last year here. We had to experience something here,” you said trying to cheer him up.
“It’s fine,” he said pulling a smile.
“No it’s not. It’s my fault. I feel bad for getting you in trouble.”
“It’s fine. Really!,” he replied.
You really did feel bad. Luhan had such a warm personality. He always managed to cheer you up when you were upset and then there was you. You always messed things for him. Sometimes you didn’t even know why he put up with you. It’s not like the two of you were best friends or anything. When you’d first seen him in school your jaw had dropped in amazement. He was the ultimate definition of perfection but then the two of you became friends and you let your feelings subside because the last thing you wanted was to fall for your friend. That always end up in a disaster and you did not want to go down that road. For some reason, that day you felt the same way, you did the first time you saw him.
“Oh Gosh what’s wrong with me,” you mumbled.
“Hmm, you said something,” Luhan asked turning his head to you.
“Oh nothing,” you sighed and rested your head on the table.
‘I should tell her how I feel. It’s almost the last three weeks of school. I won’t see her after this at all..’ Luhan thought to himself. He’d been debating whether he should tell you, how he felt about you for the longest time. The first time he saw you, there was something different that he noticed. You seemed so shy but then he had a class with you and you were the total opposite. He’d fallen for you that very day but never had the courage to tell you. You always teased him about how all the girls ran after him. He smiled back at you but deep inside he hated it because you never took him seriously. Could a guy as popular or good looking as him not have sincere feelings for someone? He’d been your friend for way too long. It was time that he told you how he felt.
“________ah,” he nudged you.
“Hmm,” you murmured without looking up.
“I want to tell you something,” he said. He placed one of his hands on his chest to make sure his heart won’t pop out. You lifted your head to look at him.
“Um…I’ve been wanting to ..say this for a long time,” he said in broken words. He seemed really nervous. For some reason you had a slight hint of what he was going to say but you didn’t want to keep your expectations high.
“What is it?” you asked softly, and held his hand. His hands were cold but he seemed to gain more confidence upon your touch.
“Aaa.. I don’t know if we will ever see each other again after this but I just wanted to tell you that..,” he paused once again. He shook his head and closed his eyes. “I’ve liked you for a while.”
Your heart sank at the words he’d uttered.
“Whaaa,” you gasped in surprise before a smile took over your face. “Wooooo,” you made a weird sound not being able to believe what he’d said. Luhan nodded.
“Shhhhhhhhh,” the supervisor said entering the detention room. You quickly let go of Luhan’s hand and looked up front. He did the same.
Your phone buzzed. You opened the message. It was from Luhan.
‘????’
‘ :)’ – you replied.
‘So that’s a yes?’ –he texted back.
You looked up at him and smiled in approval. His face lit up and he shyly looked away. Your heart fluttered seeing his eyes shine. You didn’t know if you liked him as much as he liked you but it was enough to start off a beautiful relationship.
