Your Wish Is My Command

Getting back together again… [Suho]

Requested by anon

You cleared your table once again, making sure there was nothing left on it. You’d forgotten to take your keys back home the day before and had to come all the way to get them.

“Keys, purse, phone and jacket, okay,” you counted everything to make sure one last time before leaving your cubicle. You worked at SM Entertainment as the head coordinator for Super Junior’s concerts in various countries. You had started off with a much smaller job and worked your way up. It was your 4th year working there. You loved it but you were starting to get tired of it. You needed a change.

“____________,” someone called your name, just as you were about to exit the building. You knew exactly who it was but what was he doing there at that time of the night. You turned around to see the small figure running towards you.

“Minsuk, what are you doing here?” you asked, picking him up.

“Appa picked me up from school today so I stayed here all day,” he said, moving his eyes from side to side.

“Oh Appa picked you up hmmm,” you said with a big smile and ran your hands through his hair.

“Minsuk where are….” Suho stopped outside the practice room seeing him in your hands. “Oh I’m sorry. Was he disturbing you?” Suho asked walking towards the two of you.

“Oh no, not at all,” you replied handing Minsuk over. You immediately looked away. Making eye contact with Suho had been the hardest thing since you first started work at the company. It hadn’t changed ever since. Mainly because it brought back bad memories…

“Okay so I’m going to go now,” you said taking a leave.

*******************************************************

You made a cup of hot coco and settled in bed to watch your favorite movie. It was hard to focus that night. You started to regret bumping into Suho. You always made sure never to come across him. It only lead to him trying to act as normal as possible and you avoiding eye contact.

“Arghhhh, what’s wrong with me,” you said pulling your hair. “Why did I have to see him?”

You tried to avoid old memories from coming back but they flooded in one by one.

You still remembered your first date with him in a small café outside of your school. You were nervous so he held your hand to comfort you. Two years passed in a breeze but the only thing that changed between you and him was his love. It had increased every day. Then one day he had to leave for debut and you never saw him again, until 5 years later. He had a son and a beautiful wife. It broke you completely because all those years you had kept hope alive. Hope, that he would come back. You thought many times to leave the company, but you couldn’t. You needed money to survive in that harsh city. You were on your own. You made a conscious decision to make sure you never crossed his path. The first time he saw you, he almost chocked on his drink. He hadn’t expected it at all. In the four years you had worked there, you and Suho had barely exchanged any words besides the usual head nods or when he came to get Minsuk before going home, sometimes. His son however was very friendly with you. He was often around so he hung out with you.

You shook your head to get rid of the memories and went back to watching the movie. That is what you always did. Whatever happened was in the past. You never wanted to bring it up again. Sure, you had lots of questions you wanted to ask him. Why he never came back? Why he never tried to contact you? Did he even remember you? But would those help anyone? It would only make him uncomfortable and, hurt you. He had done you wrong but that’s how life worked. You didn’t always get what you wanted.

You forced a smile on your face to stop the tears from forming and concentrated on the movie. After all being strong was all you could do.

*****************************************************

“Job hunting at work _________. Tsk tsk,” your friend said hitting you on the back of your head.

“Aish, don’t say it out a loud. I’ll get in trouble,” you tried to shush him.

Once again, you were deeply engrossed in your job search when someone came up behind you.

“Job hunting?” he said.

“Oh Gosh I told you not to..,” you stopped half through realizing that it was a different voice. You turned around immediately to find Suho standing behind you. “Oh um.. what are you doing over here?” you asked.

“I need a favor,” he said casually.

“What?” you asked, keeping your eyes fixed on the laptop screen.

“If you’re not busy after 4 o clock could you pick up Minsuk from school and take him back home? I can’t do that since our practice will run late.”

“Why me? Isn’t anyone else free?”

“I’m afraid not. And besides Minsuk is comfortable around you. I wouldn’t have asked if it wasn’t absolutely necessary. He wasn’t feeling very well this morning so I’m really worried about him.”

You thought for a while before finally nodding your head.

“Gomawo,” he thanked you and left. Your thoughts kept poking you that he was just using you but your heart told you that it was the right thing to do. Not for Suho but for Minsuk. You’d grown attached to the little kid ever since his mother died. He had completely lost it but you helped him through it by staying by his side.

**************************************************

“Why didn’t Appa come today?” Minsuk asked as you both walked to the corner of the street hand in hand.

“Appa had some work to do today,” you said and began looking for a taxi.

**Aaaaachoo** - Minsuk sneezed.

“Are you still not feeling well?” you asked.

“Aniyo,” he shook his head. You realized that his hands were warmer than usual too.

“When we go back home, you’re going to rest okay?” you instructed.

“Okay,” he said bobbling his head. “But you have to make me my favorite soup.”

“Fine,” you said picking him up and planting a kiss on his cheek.

“Aish, why do you do that?” he asked making a face. “Appa does the same thing, every morning.”

“You don’t like it?” you asked. He shook his head with a mischievous smile.  You planted another kiss on his cheek.

“Aaaaan,” he whined.

“I can’t help it Minsuk,” you said tickling him. The sweet noise of his laughter made you more than happy. You didn’t quite know why so but you were glad that you felt that way.

***************************************

“Alright, now go hurry up and change. I’ll get your soup ready okay?” you said pushing him into the bathroom.

It took you more time than it usually did to make soup. You didn’t know where each ingredient was and more than half weren’t even there. There was next to no food in the fridge. You were surprised as to how the two lived. The living room wasn’t the cleanest place either. Papers, old mails, magazines, even some cloths were scattered around all over the place.

“The soup’s ready,” you announced walking into the room. Minsuk had tucked himself in bed and was watching TV. He clapped his hands with joy smelling the food. You fed him one spoon at a time. His eyes didn’t leave yours for even a second.

“Is there something you want to say?” you asked him. He shook his head and opened his mouth for the next feed. When you were finally done you gave him a quick peck once again. This time he didn’t resist.

“I’m going to clean this place up a little bit okay?” you told him. He went back to watching TV.

You didn’t remember Suho being that dirty. In fact if anything, he was a very organized person. The death of his wife must have struck him pretty hard. You put all the dirty clothes in one rack and placed the clean ones in the closet. You organized the magazines and sprayed air freshener in the room. Dusted the tiny book shelf and cleaned the dinner table. It took you almost an hour to finish all of it. It was getting dark outside. You went into the room to check on Minsuk one last time. His eyes were still fixed on the TV screen.

“Minsuk honey, I think it’s time for bed.” You took the remote from his hand.

“Will you read me a bed time story?” he asked, holding your arm.

“Sure,” you said, not being able to deny his request. You were only two minutes into the story when Minsuk fell asleep. His short breathing pattern, tired expressions and soft cheeks made you want to kiss him once more but you knew he’d wake up so you controlled yourself. Instead, you ran your fingers through his hair.

“You’re still here?” Suho said, causing you to jump up in surprise.

“When did you get here?” you whispered, clenching your fist to your chest.

“Just now. You left the front door unlocked.”

“Oh, Mianhamnida,” you apologized.

“When did he fall asleep?” he asked.

“Just now,” you replied. Before he could say anything you decided to leave.

“___________, Suho called after you. It was the first time in many years he’d called you by your nickname. Your heart sank for a second. You calmed yourself and turned around half way.

“I’m sorry I put you through all of this,” he said.

“Oh no no, that’s fine. I had a good time with..”

“That’s not what I meant,” he cut you. What else could he mean then? You began to think, a little confused at his statement.

“I meant..,” he began but then trailed off. He didn’t know how what else to say. He wanted to apologize for what he had done to you but he couldn’t form the right words. In fact he hadn’t even planned to say what he had just blurted out.

“Get back home safely,” he sighed.

Well there was one thing that hadn’t changed. His inability to express himself…

You nodded and quickly left.

Minsuk shifted in bed but suddenly woke up. “Did ________, leave?” he asked

“Don’t call her by her name,” Suho said sitting beside him in bed.

“Then can I call her Umma?” he asked.

“What?” Suho’s eyes widened with surprise but were quickly replaced by anger. “Are you okay Minsuk?” he asked rather sternly. Minsuk clenched his fist and curled up hearing his father’s tone.

“Why can’t she be my umma?” he asked blinking his big brown eyes repeatedly.

“Minsuk be quiet,” Suho shook him lightly. The child couldn’t bear his father’s reaction and began crying. Suho’s heart softened and he tried to hold Minsuk once again but he shrugged his appa away and hid his face under the covers.

“Minsuk honey, why are you saying such stuff today?” Suho asked, trying to comfort him.

“Because I miss my umma,” he mumbled. A sudden tinge of pain ran through Suho’s heart. He was unable to respond. All he could do was pat his son to sleep.

************************************************

A week had passed and Minsuk hadn’t come to visit you at work at all. You hadn’t really seen Suho around either but that was nothing new to you. You were a little worried though. You wanted to go ask Suho but considering he would find it strange, you dropped the idea.

On Sunday morning of that week, you finally received a call from Minsuk.

“Can you come over and visit?” he asked you over the phone.

“But why Minsuk?” you asked.

“Ah, I don’t feel so good.” He said and then faked a cough. You panicked and immediately ran out of the house to see him.

**************************************************

You knocked on the door lightly. Suho opened the door after a long time.

“What are you doing over here?” he asked with an unpleasant face.

“Oh, umm Minsuk isn’t feeling well so I came to check on him,” you said nervously.

“Minsuk is just fine,” Suho replied.

“___________,” Minsuk called you, running out of the room. You kneeled down to great him and then pulled his cheeks.

“__________, can we talk?” Suho asked you.

“Ye,” you nodded.

“Come with me,” he said.

“Why not here?” you asked. He glared at you with a hardened expression. You let go off Minsuk’s hand and followed him into his room. He closed the door, making you even more scared. You knew whatever he was going to say was not going to be something you wanted to hear.

“Why are you trying to find excuses to come over here?” he asked you.

“Huh, what do..” you began.

“I know what you’re trying to do,” he raised his voice. “If you are going to put wrong thoughts in Minsuk’s mind than I suggest you rather not see him. I could never expect such a thing out of you.”

“What are you trying to say?” you cut him, obviously really confused.

“Do you know what Minsuk asked me the other day?” he said grabbing your arms. He completely took you by surprise. Did he still think he had some sort of power or control over you? If you weren’t mistaken, he had left you a long time ago. There was nothing between the two of you. How dare he hold you?

“He asked me if you could be his umma? I can’t believe you. Do you really think there’s still something between us? Are you trying to use my son to get to me again? I never thought so little of you _________. It’s pathetic to even think of something like this. I’m appalled by your..”

You suddenly shrugged yourself away from his grip. This is what he thought of you after all he had put you through. He didn’t even care about what he had done. Sure, many years had passed to that thing. He probably didn’t even remember the details since he’d moved on but what about you? You still remembered each and every detail. And now he was blaming you for coaxing his son. How could he? You didn’t even have words to defend yourself. Tears began gushing out of your eyes. You’d held them back long enough but that day it felt like Suho had pierced your heart. All this time that you hadn’t asked him for any explanations were just a waste. He could care less about how you felt. You were a fool to think that deep down he may feel a little bit guilty but that day he showed you that he didn’t. To him, the relationship he had with you was not real. How could it be? The two of you were merely, high school students, young lost and in love.

That day, for the first time, you lifted your head and looked Suho straight in the eyes. You couldn’t see pass them. You didn’t know what he was thinking. You wiped your tears and turned around to leave. Opening the door, you stopped and fixed a smile on your face so as to not upset Minsuk.

“I never meant for any of this to happen,” you mumbled and quickly opened the door. Suho stood their watchingyou, hug Minsuk and pat his head.

“Will you come back tomorrow?” he asked. You pulled a smile and shook your head.

“Why?” he asked.

“Because I have work. But I promise I’ll send some chocolates for you okay?” you said. The next second, Minsuk hugged you tightly and then kissed you on the cheek. You kissed him back and then ran out the door. There was no point in staying there. Suho had made it pretty clear.

“Did you call her here?” Suho asked Minsuk. He nodded his head but kept his eyes fixed to the ground. For the past few days Minsuk hadn’t talked to his father much.

“Why?” Suho asked.

“Because I wanted her to see you so the two of you could fall in love and then she can become my umma.” Suho didn’t even know how to respond. His son’s thoughts were so innocent and pure.

“Did _________ ever say something about this to you?” he asked. The child shook his head. “Then how did you come up with such a thing?” Suho asked.

“Because I know she likes you. She is always scared of looking at you.” Suho’s jaw dropped in surprise. Was his son really seven years old? How could he see things Suho never could.

“I want umma,” Minsuk said hugging his appa. The child’s words had moved Suho so much that even he began to cry. A little part of him regretted for yelling at you and the other part wept for making his son’s life miserable. ‘How could I be so selfish?’- he thought to himself. ‘I was thinking about only myself this whole time.’

**************************************************

You decided not to go to work for the next few days. You had to get your resignation letter ready. You had thought a lot the before finally making that decision. It was better for both you and Suho that you left. That way, you won’t hurt yourself and Suho wouldn’t be uncomfortable. Besides you’d been longing for a change and Suho just made it easier for you to make that decision.

You heard a knock on your front door. You looked at your clock. It was almost 9 o clock. Who would visit you at that hour on a working night?

You walked to the door and slowly opened it. Your face hardened upon seeing Suho stand on the other end. You stared at him for a long time.

“Can I come in?” he asked. You moved aside so he could enter. The two of you walked into the living room. He glanced at the resignation letter that lay on the coffee table.

“So you really are leaving?” he asked, sitting next to you on the couch.

You nodded, clenching your hands nervously. You hated the fact that he was the only one in the entire world who could make you feel that way. You’d never let another person into your heart like that.

“_________,” he began. “I’m sorry about what I said the other day.”

“It’s okay you don’t have to,” you said getting up. He held your hand pulling you to sit down again.

“No let me say this. That day I got mad at you because I was mad at myself. I’ve been mad at myself ever since I saw you again. I hate myself for what I did to you. You probably think I don’t remember anything but I do. Each and everything and it hurts me. I was stupid for doing what I did to you. I got too caught up in my fame. It’s like the company changed me. I didn’t feel the need to contact you because I became arrogant. And now I see you hiding yourself from me, never making eye contact as if you’ve done something wrong. That should be me not you ______________. I’m the one who should be guilty here. That day when Minsuk said he wanted you to be his mother, it made me angry. I was mad because I had done you injustice. Minsuk reminded me of that. I wanted you to go away so I wouldn’t have to think about it but how stupid was I. I didn’t even care about your feelings and blamed you for everything. I am so sorry. I know my words don’t make sense and it’s because I’m a mess. I don’t have anybody in my life besides Minsuk. I feel so lonely and worn out. I need someone. Minsuk needs someone…” He stopped upon hearing your soft sniffles. He had no idea when you had started crying. It hurt him even more. He knew he didn’t deserve you. You were far too good for him and yet there he was begging you to forgive him.

He held your hand and then pulled you into a side hug.

“I want you to take care of Minsuk ….and ….me,” he whispered. “I know you still have feelings for me.”

“What about you Suho? Do you have feelings for me? Or are you only saying this because you want Minsuk to be happy?” you asked pulling away. You had never demanded answers for all the questions you had for him but that day you wanted to know.

“I loved my wife a lot..,” he said. “But .. that doesn’t change the fact that you were the first person I loved.” He held your hands once again. “I promise to take care of you __________. I’ll never make you feel unloved ever again.”

You were surprised as to how quickly your heart forgave him. That little part of you that hated him was slowly fading away. You felt pathetic for giving in so easily. But was it really your fault for loving him so much? Love had no boundaries. Suho slipped his hands behind your waist, forcing you to turn around and then embraced you.

“I’m still waiting _________,” he whispered desperately.

“Ye,” you whispered back and buried your face into his chest. He ran his hands on your back to comfort you.

“I promise you, you won’t regret this. You’ll never be hurt again,” he said kissing you on your temple. You tightened your grip on him letting him know that you were ready to trust him again.
