Your Wish Is My Command

Way to his heart [Wooyoung]

Requested by myoppamyoppa

You looked at him through the little space between the books. His perfectly crafted face, his shining eyes and his soft lips always marveled you. He was deeply absorbed in the book that he was reading. You stared at him intently as he finished each page and moved on to the next one. You didn’t even realize that you had been standing there for 20 minutes.

“Do you want me to help you find a book?” a library assistant asked you.

“Aiiiiii,” you jumped around. His sudden appearance had scared you. The books that you were holding in your hand flung in the air and landed in the other aisle. The assistant gave you a strange look and walked away. You were used to getting such looks. It wasn’t anything new for you. You sighed and turned around but jumped back again creating the same weird sound. Wooyoung was standing in front of you with your books in his hand.

“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to scare you,” he apologized.

“Its fine,” you said tucking your hair behind your ear.

“Here,” he gave you back your books. He looked like he was trying extremely hard to control his laughter. You knew he was laughing at your stupidity and your weight and your messy hair and your uneven eyes. You really thought he was a nice guy but maybe he wasn’t.

You took the books from him and turned to walk.

“Usually, people say thank you, when someone does them a favor,” he said from behind.

“Ghamsahamnida,” you said without turning and proceeded out of the library. You were always insecure about yourself. You hated what you looked like and now seeing Wooyoung laugh at you had left you devastated.

You had first seen him at the school play. You couldn’t see his face clearly from afar but you had fallen in love with his dancing and singing. He was extremely talented. You followed him out of the theater after the performance just so you could catch a glimpse of his face. When you finally saw it, you were dumbfounded. You hadn’t seen some one more perfect than him. All you could do was stand in the corner and squeal.

At nights you would think about him and create scenarios in your head but at the end always left yourself dishearted. You knew that you could never be with him. He was a popular kid in high school while you were a short, chubby girl who nobody knew.

***************************************************

Everybody was crying as you entered school one morning.

“Who died?” you asked your friend.

“No one died. It’s about Wooyoung.”

“Wooyoung??? What happened to him?” you panicked.

“Relaxxxx! He got casted by an agency so he will be leaving soon.”

“What?” you gasped. You felt your breathing getting faster and your heart racing.

“Yeah! But he will come back soon! To give his finals!” she added.

Tears began forming in your eyes. You turned around and began running towards the back side of the school. That is where you went every time something bad happened to you and you felt like crying to let it all out. Your vision was blurred by the tears.

“No no no no no!” you said repeatedly while shaking your head. You buried your face into your hands and cried for a long time. As time passed by you didn’t even know why you were crying. It’s not like he was ever yours to begin with. You felt like somebody had just plunged a knife into your heart and twisted it around. The pain was unbearable. You wished you hadn’t fallen for him in the first place but love doesn’t come with warnings. You knew you couldn’t love anyone the way you loved him…

**********************************************

Two weeks had passed away. You were doing much better than you had expected. You had decided that you were going to wait for Wooyoung to come back and when he did you were going to confess your feelings. You didn’t care about how he was going to react. All you knew was that twenty years from now you were going to regret not telling him. But to do that you would first have to change the way you looked. You had promised yourself to lose weight, enough weight to shock everyone.

Your diet consisted of fruits and vegetables. Soda was a big NO and waking up at 6 o clock in the morning for the gym became a part of your routine. You hated it but it was worth it.

***********************************************

Three months passed by in a breeze. You were definitely not the person you used to be. You were much skinnier now. People in school had started noticing you. A few guys even asked you out but you politely refused. You were waiting for your Wooyoung to come back.

It was the first day of the finals and also the day Wooyoung came back. You excitedly stepped into the school.

“Hey, ready for the big day?” your friend patted your back.

“Yep,” you clapped your hands together.

“Go get him,” she pushed you. You saw Wooyoung walking towards the classroom with all the girls following close behind. Your heart was racing. All the confidence that you had built up in the last three months was slowly draining away. You felt your hands getting numb. To get to him you would have to pass through the flood of girls. You took another step but your feet froze. You couldn’t do it.

“What’s wrong?” your friend asked.

You looked towards the ground and sighed. “I can’t do it!”

“Yes you can!” she encouraged you.

“Look at him Suli! He didn’t know I existed before and now that he’s actually famous what do you expect? He’s going to laugh at me, just like the other day.”

“He won’t laugh at you my love. At least give him a chance.”

You shook your head. “I don’t think I can do this.”

Your friend sighed. “Come on let’s get to class. We’ll figure this out later okay.”

***************************************

After class you decided to leave immediately before your friend could spot you and force you to go up to Wooyoung.

“__________,” Suli called from behind.

“Aii,” you began running without turning around. You entered the theater’s practice room and closed the door behind you.

“Open the door ______, I know you’re in there,” she banged on the door.

“Aneyo,” you shouted back while looking for the switch board.

“Ah there it is,” you turned on the light. You didn’t realize that your foot was inside the loop of wires. As soon as you took a step, you lost your balance and began to fall. Two arms held you and supported you upright.

“Are you okay?” Wooyoung asked you.

You were running away from Suli so you wouldn’t have to face him and there he was standing right in front of you. Your hands began shaking. You couldn’t even look him straight in the eyes. Wooyoung hadn’t moved at all. You could feel that he was still looking at you. You slowly lifted your head.

Wooyoung snapped his fingers. “Yes I remember! You’re the same girl from the library.” He began laughing.

You couldn’t believe it. You had worked so hard on yourself and he was still making fun of you. Wooyoung stopped immediately as he heard your sniffles.

“Ai , what happened?” he panicked.

“You are such an ignorant and immature person,” you yelled and turned to leave. He was surprised by your reaction. He ran toward you and blocked your way.

“What do you mean?” he asked.

You didn’t respond and began to walk but he blocked your way again, now spreading his arms.

“Did I do something wrong?” he asked.

“Wrong? Are you seriously asking me that?”

He nodded his head. You couldn’t control your anger anymore.

“I am tired of people making fun of me for my weight and the way I looked. Do you have any idea how much you hurt me that day when you laughed at me? I promised myself that I would lose weight just so I could prove to everybody that appearance isn’t all they should look at it. I did this so I could tell you how much I…” You realized that you had said too much.

“How much what?” he asked.

“Nothing,” you looked away.

Both of you stood in silence. You wanted him to say something but he was just as confused as you were.

“I didn’t laugh at you because of the way you looked,” he finally said. You turned your head to face him. “I was laughing at what you had done.”

You looked at him with questioning eyes.

“When you flung your books in the air and managed to throw them on the other side of the library. I thought that was pretty funny,” he said with a serious expression. “I regret it now because I didn’t know it was going to hurt you. I am so sorry.”

You felt stupid. How could you even think that Wooyoung could think of something like that? He had a nice heart but you had misjudged him. You didn’t know what to say. He had left you speechless.

“I’m sorry,” you whispered.

He didn’t say anything. You knew you’d made a fool out of yourself and there was no fixing it now. Whatever little chance that you’d had with him were gone forever.

Your began to walk towards the door. Your feet felt heavy. You’d lost something you never had. Life was unfair but it could be this unfair, you had no idea.

“Wait,” Wooyoung called after you. “Where were you the day I was leaving?” he asked.

You were confused. Why did he want to know?

“I looked around for you.” He said scratching his head. He seemed nervous.

“Why?” you gathered enough courage to ask.

“To be honest, I’m not sure,” he replied after much thinking. You weren’t disappointed at his answer. All you could think about was the fact that he knew you existed three months ago. You remained quiet. You wanted him to do all the talking.

“Can we just forget about all of this and start over?” he asked. You noticed that your heart wasn’t racing anymore. You were emotionless at the moment.

“Can we?” he repeated.

“Ye,” you whispered.

“Gomawo,” he replied and a huge smile spread on his face. He seemed happy. You were happy too. You could feel butterflies in your stomach.

This was much better than what you had planned for the day. These baby steps were one day going to lead you straight to his heart…
