The show was soon going to end. You wanted time to freeze so you could stare at your oppas for the rest of your life. Showing them your talent was a dream. You’d never imagined it would come true.
Lifting your head slightly, you tried to catch a glimpse of them. Chanyeol sitting close to the side. He turned his head, to look at you. You quickly looked away. He smiled and shook his head.
“Chanyeol would you like to say something to your fans?” the MC suddenly put him on the spot. He had no idea what was going on.
“It’s your turn,” Baekhyun whispered in his ear. Chanyeol took the mic and began talking. His deep voice melted in your heart. You were concentrating more on that than the message he was delivering.
“…and finally I would like to thank _________, for giving such an amazing performance today.” You jumped up at the sound of your name. He said your name. He really did. You looked in his direction. He was looking right back at you with a big, cheeky smile on his face. You began to blush. Right then the nights dimmed and the boys got up.
You thanked God for saving you from embarrassment. The assistants began pushing everybody out of the studio. You turned around after reaching the top to get a one last look at them. They all looked charismatic. If only you could run down there and hug them. You even thought of doing that but seeing the assistant walk toward you, you quickly ran out of the studio like all the other people.
People were patting you on the shoulder for doing such a good job. Most of them were older. The young girls glared at you with jealousy while the guys looked at you with longing eyes. Some even winked at you but you paid no attention. None of them were as good looking as your oppas.
******************************************
“Chanyeol, the MC asked you something. Seriously, where is your head?” Suho, nudged him.
“Huh!, Oh I’m sorry,” he said shaking his head.
“It’s alright,” the MC replied and showed them the way back stage.
“You guys did great,” he said shaking hands with each member.
“Hey, do you have any idea where all the audience is going too?” Chanyeol asked with a silly expression on his face. He didn’t realize that his question was even sillier.
“What?” the MC made a confused expression.
Chanyeol sighed and looked turned around.
“Hey guys I’ll see you in a bit okay?” he said walking away.
“Where are you going? We have another schedule to go to,” Suho said sternly, already mad at his behavior earlier.
“I’m not going that far,” he pouted.
“No come back here.”
“Hyung Jebal…”
“Aniyo,” Suho shook his head.
“Okay then can I just go use the bathroom?” Chanyeol said sounding disappointed. Suho raised one of his eyebrow, thinking deeply before finally nodding his head. Baekhyun and Kyungsoo knew something was definitely up. Chanyeol didn’t usually act like that.
Getting the nod from Suho, he ran from backstage into the studio. The audience had left. He climbed the stairs and opened the door to the main entrance. There were still some people walking around here and there, hoping to get a glimpse of the EXO boys. He hid in the corner so as to not get over run by the small crowd. Poking his head out, he scanned the area, looking for you. You weren’t there. Judging by the eagerness you’d shown on stage, he assumed you’d still be around but you weren’t. He was a little disappointed. He shook his head and turned around to walk back. Instead of taking the long way, he decided to go from the back alley.
He opened the door and poked his head out in the sunshine. No one was there. He sighed and closed the door but jumped back immediately. You were standing right there in front of him.
“Oh my God, where did you come from?” he said with his eyes wide open.
“From up there!” you pointed towards the sky.
Chanyeol chuckled and scratched his head. You smiled too, to lighten the atmosphere. You could only hope that he wouldn’t notice your shaking legs. You’d walked into the alley, to see if there was a way to go backstage. Had you found a way, you’d only look like a stalker but you didn’t care. But now that he was there, right in front of you, you wanted to act all cool.
“What are you doing here,” you asked not making eye contact. You couldn’t either ways. He was really tall.
“Uh I was looking for a way to get backstage,” he said. ‘Oh Gosh, the voice..’ you kept thinking in your head. Once again, you focused more on that than the words.
“What about you?” he asked and repeated twice before you finally heard him.
“Oh I was just walking back home..” you lied.
Chanyeol nodded like he usually did, with a faint smile. Even his eyes were smiling. He seemed magical with the sun shining brightly right behind him.
“You did really good,” he said giving you a thumbs up.
“Ghamsahamnida..” you replied clenching your hands.
Chanyeol was trying hard to form the right words in his head. He didn’t want to seem creepy.
“So.. do you dance for some club or something?”
“Ah.. yeah! It’s not really a club. It’s more like a dance studio. I go there to practice.”
“Oh Dance studio,” he repeated nodding his head. “Which one?”
“Dream High Dance Studio.”
“Ohh..That’s great!” he gave you another thumbs up. He never thought he would be so nervous talking to a girl. On the other hand you were confused as to why he was even making an effort to talk to you. You loved the fact that he was, but why? You had no idea. You suddenly remembered something. You had your Exo album in your bag. You carried it around everywhere with you.
“Can you sign my album?” you asked.
“Oh yeah sure,” he said eagerly as you gave him a pen and the album. After signing it, he looked up at you. He wanted to stay for longer but he knew if he didn’t leave, Suho was going to kill him.
“Hey I have to leave. I hope to see you around,” he winked. You knew your heart was going to pop out any second.
“Oh yeah sure,” you said calmly.
You waited for him to go inside and as soon as he did, you clenched your chest and landed on the ground still not being able to believe what had just happened. You were standing inches away from Oppa. You started squealing with excitement. It was one of those days that you were never going to forget.
*************************************************
Two months later..
“You’re doing really good,” your dance instructor patted your back.
“Thankyou,” you replied catching your breath. You walked into the corner to get your water bottle. Your eyes fell on the window, to a familiar image. It looked like Chanyeol but it quickly disappeared. ‘How could it be him?’ you thought to yourself and shook your head. A smile broke on your face as the memories of the day you appeared on Star King started coming back to you.
********************************************************
“Did you go out again?” Suho asked as CHanyeol opened the dorm door, while panting.
“Yeah!,” he said catching his breath. “But I covered up pretty well. Almost, no one saw me.”
“Almost?” Suho asked.
“Yeah,” he said as a smile appeared on his face.

You turned in bed from side to side holding your stomach. Your periods had started earlier that morning. They didn't normally hurt but for some reason they were giving you a lot of pain.
“What’s wrong with you?” Chanyeol said turning on the room’s light. “I can hear you moan, from the hallway.
“When did you get here?” you asked him, turning around.
“A minute ago,” he said taking of his shirt. He buried his head in the closet looking for another shirt to wear.
“My periods started this morning,” you said clenching your tummy.
“Ahhh!! No wonder,” he said with a cheeky smile as he slipped in bed besides you. “Do you want me to rub it for you?”
“Aish no!,” you pushed his hand away. He was smiling but something seemed to be missing. There was something he wanted to tell you but was holding it back. You scrutinized his face for a good minute before you gave into your curiosity and finally asked.
“What’s wrong?”
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“You don’t seem like yourself today.”
“Myself?,” he shrugged his shoulders. “I’m always myself.”
“Oppa, tell me!,” you pouted.
“Umma, is coming next week,” he said after a long pause.
“Whaaaa!,” you gasped but then quickly realized that there was nothing to worry about. He’d told his mother about you, or at least he said that he did. “So what’s there to worry about. You did tell her about me, right?”
“Huh! Aaaa yeah!,” he said and turned around to avoid your questioning looks.
“Oppa!” you placed a hand on his shoulder, sensing that something was wrong. He turned around and held your hand.
“_______, is it okay if you move into one of your friend’s apartment for a week?” he asked.
“What?” you snapped. “Why?”
“Umma, wouldn’t like seeing you here.”
“Why?”
“Becauseeeee…,”
You raised your eyebrows, waiting for him to finish his statement but he never did.
“Wait, did you even tell her about me?” you asked. He couldn’t lie to you again. Instead of saying anything, he looked away. You pulled your hand out of his and turned around. A sudden rush of anger took over you. A year and a half into the relationship and he still didn’t have the guts to tell his mother.
“_________, please don’t be mad.” He put his hand on your shoulder. You shrugged it away.
“I’ll tell her soon.”
“That’s what you said last time too.”
“I promise this time.”
“That too!”
Chanyeol sighed and remained quiet but he still had to figure out a way to make you leave for a week.
“So will you go,” he asked. The anger that was boiling up inside of you erupted. Instead of yelling, you got out of bed. You walked to your closet, took out a bad and began filling it up with cloths.
“Oh Gosh! Don’t go now!,” he said, getting out of bed.
“Just stop Chanyeol!, Just..,” you lifted your hand to stop him.
“Come and get me when you get done with all this,” you said with disgust, before leaving the room. He wanted to stop you but he thought it better to not. There were other things he needed to prepare before his mother came.
*****************************************************
I t had been four days and Chanyeol hadn’t contacted you for once. No messages, no calls. He didn’t pick up his phone when you called, either. You were never the patient type. Instead of thinking about the situation more calmly you decided to do something really stupid..
You knew Chanyeol had schedules in the morning. It was perfect for the plan you were going to carry out.
You knocked on his apartment door. After a while you heard soft footsteps towards the door. You were anticipating the moment his mother, opened to door.
“Annyeonghasaeyo,” you greeted her with a big smile. She gave you a confused look but greeted back.
“Is Chanyeol here,” you asked, knowing what her answer was going to be.
“Aniyo, but who are you?” she asked.
“Oh he didn’t already tell you?” you said with a serious face but inside you were laughing. “Well, I’m his girl friend.”
Her expression changed. Her eyes widened with surprise and her face turned bright red.
“Now, can I please come in? I need to get some of my stuff that I left here.” You walked into his room and began fiddling for stuff in the drawers. She followed close behind.
“You live here?” she asked.
“Ye, we live together,” you said calmly. “Ok I think that’s everything I need. I’ll move back in soon so I don’t think I need all the stuff.” She looked at you from bottom up. Her looks seemed threatening. You thought it better to leave. Your work there was done.
“I should leave. Annyeonhee Gaesayeo,” you said and quickly left.
**********************************************************
You smiled upon hearing the loud banging on the door. ‘It’s about time..’ you thought as you walked to the door. As soon as you opened it, Chanyeol grabbed you by the wrist and dragged you into the room.
“What is wrong with you?” he yelled.
“What’s wrong with me?” What’s wrong with you?” you yelled back.
“Do you have any idea what you’ve done?”
“I did you a favor. Now you won’t have to worry about telling her.”
“Did me a favor? Do you have any idea how mad she is right now? ______________, how could you be so stupid?”
“I’m the one being stupid?” you asked. “I just want to be treated right.”
“Have I ever treated you wrong?”
“Yes you have,” you yelled back and pushed him. Chanyeol raised his hand and slapped you across the face. He’d tried hard to remain calm but you really had crossed your line and you failed to realize that.
Tears started coming out of your eyes as you held your cheek.
“I hate you,” you said and ran into the corner of the room. Chanyeol stood in the corner, trying to calm himself. Guilt soon took over his emotions. He looked up at you. You were curled up, with your head buried in your hands. Your soft sniffles were running like a knife through his heart.
He came and sat beside you, trying to form the right words in his head.
“___________ah, I’m sorry,” he said trying to pull you into a hug. You struggled but finally gave in.
“I shouldn’t have hit you. I’m really sorry,” he said.
“I hate you,” you said hitting him on the chest.
“I love you,” he said and kissed you on the temple. You were just as guilty for what you’d done earlier that day. You knew you had to apologize too.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know what happened to me. I can’t believe I was being so childish.” You pulled away and looked at him. If it was any other guy, they would have left you that instant but this was Chanyeol. He loved you and he cared about you. No matter how stupid you acted. You began to hate yourself for what you’d done. “I’m so sorry for screwing this up. I really am so stupid.
“Don’t say that,” he said and kissed you again.
“But..”
“Shhh..” he shook his head, placing one of his fingers on your lips.
“What’s going to happen now?” you asked.
“I need some time to convince her.”
“Take all your time. I’m not going to rush you anymore.”
“Thank you.” A faint smile appeared on his face. He seemed distressed but he was pulling himself together.

“_________ ah, are you going to come to my birthday party or not?” Your friend asked with a slight hint of irritation. She’d already asked you this question a bunch of times before. You didn’t like social gatherings, especially the ones your friend went too. Her dad was really rich so the parties she went to were high class. She always invited you but you turned her down because you felt like you won’t be able to fit in. This time was different however since it was her boyfriend’s masked birthday party.
“_________!” she shook you this time.
“Huhnhh! Umm yeah okay. I’ll come.” The very next second you found yourself wrapped tightly in Eunsol’s arms.
“Oh the things I do for you,” you said making a funny face.
“Saranghae!” she said excitedly.
“Saranghae!” you mumbled back.
***********************************************************
“I still don’t understand why he’s having such a big birthday party? When I have a birthday party I go to a small bubble tea shop with a friend,” you said making a face.
“Oh Shhhh! Don’t let him hear you. A lot of ‘cool’ people are here so try to mingle with them,” Eunsol nagged you.
“Aish,” you made a face while putting on the mask.
You were glad it was a masked birthday party. That way nobody would be able to see your face and you wouldn’t be as nervous as you usually are. Most girls brought dates. They were having fun on the dance floor while you stood in the corner playing with your drink. You sipped some but immediately threw it back in the glass. It was disgusting. You looked around to make sure no one saw you. Everybody was busy in their own world. Nobody would care to look at a random girl standing in the corner minding her own business.
You’d started to regret the idea of coming to the party. Being amongst so many people, you were still lonely. A cold breeze of air touched your bear arms. ‘Ahh a balcony,’ you thought looking at the open door. Squeezing through the crowd you somehow made it outside. It was chilly but at the time anything was better than staying inside and humiliating yourself.
The dark sky was lit with beautiful stars. It looked beautiful. You didn’t smile that often but looking at the glittery dark sheet always cheered you up. Memories of your childhood started coming back to you. Your dad would take you to the rooftop. He would lift your hand up and then draw patterns, connecting the stars. He would then tell you fairytales about princesses. You always wondered when your prince charming was going to come and sweep you off your feet. You missed your daddy. Your only wish on every 11:11, every shooting star, every eye lash that fell on your cheek, was for him to come back. Tears started forming in your eyes but you quickly wiped them away.
“It’s not nice for a pretty girl to be crying at a party like this one,” somebody suddenly came besides you and said. You calmed your nerves and turned sideways to see who it was. He wasn’t looking at you. He was looking up at the sky, just like you were a little while back. His skin looked beautiful in the dim light and the dimple on his cheek was killing you on the inside. You were a sucker for dimples.
“I’m not crying,” you mumbled.
“It’s okay. You don’t have to lie to me,” he said. You looked back at him. He seemed to speak without any emotions.
“Were you thinking about someone?” he asked. You shook your head. He turned his face towards you for a brief second then looked away.
“Every time I look at the stars I think about the person I loved dearly,” he began. Your heart sank for a second. You wanted to know who it was but asking him would be weird. You barely knew him.
“Who was it?” you asked hesitantly.
“My childhood friend,” he said and then paused. “We loved each other.. a lot until..”
“Until?” you asked.
“Until.. … aaaa..” his voice chocked. “Do you want to dance?” he changed the topic immediately.
“What?” you whispered at the sudden question.
“Ye. Come on..” he offered you his hand. You felt like some sort of a force was pulling you towards him. You took his hand and followed him inside. Your favorite song ‘Seven years of love’ was playing. He placed one hand around your waist and held your hand in the other.
“I don’t know how to dance,” you said meekly.
“I’ll teach you,” he pushed you back as you twirled then he pulled you close once again. His eyes looked beautiful as they stared into yours. You couldn’t help but look at the slight dip next to his smooth lips. Was he even real? You asked yourself. You wanted to see the face behind the mask.
You heard him chuckle.
“What?” you asked. He shook his head, keeping the faint smile on his face.
“What?” you asked again.
“It’s the way you’re looking at me,” he said. Your face turned red and your hands started shaking. You’d never failed to embarrass yourself.
“Mianhe,” you said looking away.
“Don’t be nervous,” he said squeezing your hands to let them relax. “You’re doing great.”
The song was coming to an end. He was going to leave soon. You didn’t want him too. You wanted him to stay. You wanted to know more about him.
“You didn’t tell me what happened to her?” you asked. His smile disappeared and his skin grew pale.
“I’m sor..” you began to say but he cut you.
“She died in a car accident.” You looked up instantly. You were having difficulty registering the words in your head.
“What?” you gasped. He leaned in and gave you a light peck on the cheek. The song ended, and his hands slowly slipped out of yours. You stood there as if struck by lightning. Before you knew it, his figure faded into the crowd.
“Wait..” you whispered but it was too late. He was gone. How could it be that a guy as charming as him went through so much in life? You felt a tinge of pain in your heart. You didn’t know when you got pushed off of the dance floor by the crowd. You were now standing in the corner, your eyes wandering from side to side, trying to look for him. Your brain kept telling you that whatever happened wasn’t real but your heart kept poking you to go look for him.
As always you listened to your brain. It would be stupid to go after him. The brief encounter you’d had with him was beautiful enough. You wanted to remember it just as it was. Maybe that’s how it was meant to be. Nothing more, nothing less. You sighed and looked once more at the keyed up crowd and then turned around shaking your head.
You were going to remember that night forever…
*********************************************
One month later..
The mall wasn’t as crowded as it usually was on Sunday mornings. You walked, deeply engulfed in your thoughts. Somebody suddenly bumped into you.
“Oh I’m sorry,” the guy held you for a second before moving on again. You brushed the hair off of your face quickly in response to the familiar fragrance. It was quick enough for you to catch a glimpse of the slight dip next to his lips. You knew it was him. It had to be. The bags you had in your hand dropped, as you stood their staring at him fading into the pool of people once again. Just like a month ago, your heart poked you to go after him. Stop him. You took a step.. but then shook your head and turned around. A smile appeared on your face as a line ran through your head, ‘Leave it the way it is…’
Lay turned around and saw you walking. A voice in the back of his head kept telling him that you were the one. You were the girl from the party. He hit the back of his head as a smile appeared on his face. He too turned around shaking his head and continued walking. He was also going to ‘Leave it the way it was..’

You knew well that the Exo boys were going to be fast asleep but you had no choice. Without hesitating you knocked on the door for the fifth time. You stopped upon hearing someone’s foot steps towards the door. To your surprise, it was Sehun. He rubbed his eyes to make sure it really was you at this hour.
“_________ ah, what are you doing here at this hour?”
“Seriously that’s what you’re going to ask me? How about ________ you’re drenched in water Come inside and let me give you some dry cloths,” you said sarcastically.
“Aish, Mianhe,” he said pulling you in.
“I was walking home and then it started raining. I had no choice but to come here since your dorm was closer.”
“Aaaa, oh okay let me find you some dry cloths,” he said and went to his room. He came back shortly after, stumbling in the dark, hitting everything that was in his way.
“Just turn on the lights,” you said.
“Shhh, no! I don’t want the hyungs to wake up,” he said offering you the cloths. “You can sleep in Manager Hyung’s room since he isn’t here today.”
The two of you walked into the small room in the corner.
“Will you not sleep with me?” you asked taking off your cloths.
“If you want me too,” he replied.
“Okay now turn around I’m about to take off my bra,” you said winking at him.
“Like it matters,” he said coming closer to you.
“Oh don’t be a child,” you said with a huge smile on your face. Sehun grabbed your wrist and held it behind your back slowly pushing you towards the wall.
“Who’s the child now?” he whispered.
“Sehun ahhh,” you tried to push him but his grip really was strong.
“You’ve gotten stronger,” you mumbled. He chuckled and planted a kiss on your lips.
“Come on let’s get into bed. I’m really tired.”
“Yes Sir,” you replied and followed him.
**********************************************************
Your friend had invited you to her son’s first birthday. You wanted Sehun to come too but he was busy with his schedules.
“Sehun didn’t come?” Aesook asked you.
“Aniyo. He had work,” you replied. Her son looked adorable in the white sweater and blue shorts. You took him from her and cradled him in your arms.
“He’s adorable,” you said planting a kiss on his cheek.
“_____________ oh my God!” a familiar voice from behind you called. You gave Aesook’s son back to her and turned around with a big smile.
“Oh my Gosh Suli,” you said running towards her.
“I haven’t seen you in a forever,” she said hugging you.
“I know. Where had you been?” you asked.
“I was out of country for a while but I just returned with my husband.”
“Husband?” you asked.
“Ye, we got married two years ago. I have a 6 month old daughter,” she said pointing to a guy with a little baby in his hand.
“Awwww,” you said innocently. “I want to hold her.”
“Sure.”
The two of you walked to her husband. You loved kids so seeing all these little babies around you was making you squeal with excitement.
“So when are you starting a family?” Suli nudged you. Her question made you blush.
“Umm soon,” you mumbled and began to play with the baby so she won’t ask you further questions.
***********************************************
Once you got home, instead of being happy, you were really upset. Half of your friends at the party were already married and had kids while you were in a relationship with a guy who was three years younger than you. Your phone buzzed. It was a message from Sehun. He was coming to see you.
You began to think. Did you want to tell him that you wanted to take your relationship to the next level? You felt bad expecting a 21 year old guy to take responsibility of becoming a father. You couldn’t be selfish with this decision but then again, you really did want to take the next step in life. The door bell rang and you still hadn’t made up your mind.
“It’s open,” you yelled across the living room. The door opened and Sehun entered.
“How was the party?” he asked sitting beside you.
“It was good,” you mumbled.
“You don’t sound like you had fun,” he said giving you a kiss on your neck.
“No I did,” you said, this time trying hard to show that you were happy.
“Umm I’m pretty sure something’s up. Just tell me,” he said now pressing his lips against yours.
“What is it?” he said stopping for a second. He leaned in once again but you turned your face.
“________!” he said your name.
“I want a baby,” you suddenly blurted out without thinking. You smacked your forehead. “I didn’t mean to say that.”
Sehun was taken aback. His eyes were wide open with surprise as he stared at you.
“Just ignore what I said. Please.”
“Whattt,” he gasped.
“Aaaa, Let’s forget about it,” you said getting up. Sehun pulled you back.
“No, tell me what you meant by that?” he said.
“Nothing,” you whispered, not being able to make eye contact.
“Do you really want a baby?” he asked holding your wrist tightly.
You sighed and nodded your head. You felt his grip loosen on you. Your heart sank. He wasn’t going to leave you for this was he? You asked yourself but dared to not turn around. Sehun shifted on the couch and buried his face in his hands.
“I’m sorry,” you murmured.
Sehun didn’t say anything. He was thinking. Even though he was younger than you, you couldn’t help but admire his decision making skills. He always looked at the pro’s and con’s of everything. That was one of the uncountable reasons that had made you fall for him. It had taken him a year to convince you to go out with him. He tried every possible way to show you that he was capable of being a manly guy that every girl dreamt of. You were older than him but he acted more mature than you did. The awkwardness between you two lasted for only a month and then things changed dramatically. Sehun showed that he was in charge and more importantly that he loved you deeply.
“_________ah,” he said. He seemed to be ready to talk. You turned to face him. He held your hands and looked up.
“I don’t want to break your heart.” You wanted to kiss him. Why was he so sweet?
“But I do need sometime. I think having a baby would be a huge responsibility and I need to get myself ready for that. I don’t want to say yes right now and then back out later. If I do it I want to do it right,” He paused for a while. “Can you wait?” he asked.
You already knew how you were going to respond but you wanted to wait for a little bit.
“_________, please don’t be mad at me. I want you to be happy,” he said with pure innocence in his eyes.
You shook your head and hugged him.
“And I want you to be happy…. I can wait.” Even without looking at his face, you knew well, that he was smiling.
“Thank you,” he mumbled through your hair.
Now, all you had to do was wait..
________________________________________________________
I set the scenario in the future because Sehun is 19 years old right now and I honestly find it REALLY weird to even ask a 21 year old to be your baby’s father so 19 would have been really ridiculous.
I dedicate this scenario to all the lovely Noona’s out there who have been victimized by Sehun’s cuteness.! :)
Yep this is what I’m talkin’ about

“Ahhhhhhhhhhh, it’s so hot,” Luhan whined, while solving his rubix cube.
“Ummm are you okay? Oppa?” you asked looking up from your magazine.
“Don’t you feel hot?” he asked rolling around, now looking at you.
“Nope I’m fine,” you said shaking your head. Just then Xiumin walked in. “Oh Good you’re here oppa, now use your powers to make Luhan oppa feel better.”
Luhan chuckled and squinted his eyes at you.
“What are you guys talking about?” he said in confusion. “And why is it so hot in here?”
“Seeee!! I told you it was hot,” Luhan said booing at you. You pouted.
“They need to fix the air conditioner in this practice room soon. ________ah, tell the managers.”
You looked up for a brief second and nodded your head. The boys were done with their practice for the day and were just freshening up. You were responsible for taking care of all their needs while they practiced. It wasn’t really a job but since you were the manager’s sister, he pulled some strings for you.
“________ ah, are you..??”
“What?” you looked up once again interrupted from your reading. Just then Chen walked into the room. The wrinkles on your forehead vanished immediately and light pink touch of blush took over your cheeks. You quickly looked away.
“Oh Gosh it’s hot in here,” he said waving his hands in the air.
“Ye,” Xiuhan remarked.
“Let’s play a game!” Luhan suggested.
“What kind?” Chen asked.
“Ummm Truth and Dare?”
“Truth and Dare? Don’t you remember last time we played that game?” Xiumin asked with an amusing expression.
“Yep, that’s exactly why I want to play again,” he said and winked back.
Kris, Lay and Tao entered the room.
“Wow its h…” Kris said but Xiumin and Luhan cut him. “Hot in here! Yes we know.”
You couldn’t help but notice the conversation the boys were having.
“Wanna play Truth and dare?” Chen asked.
“Sure,” Tao replied. Kris and Lay followed.
“Hey __________, don’t you want to play?” Luhan asked throwing a stuff ball at you.
“Aaaa, no thanks,” you replied without looking. You didn’t like making eye contact with Chen so you tried best possible to keep away from him.
“Oh come on,” Tao whined and got up to walk towards you. He grabbed your hand and dragged you to the small circle the boys had formed.
“Sit here,” he said making you sit across from Chen. Just what you needed. Every time you saw his face, your face turned red and your heart began racing. You frowned as Chen looked at you. The smile on his face disappeared. You then kept your eyes fixed to the ground. There was a sort of awkwardness between you and him. You didn’t want him to find out you had feelings for him because that was going to be nothing but a hot mess. Your brother had warned you about such things before you entered the company.
“Okay let’s start,” Kris announced spinning the bottle.
“Tao, Tao, Tao, Tao,” everybody chanted trying to annoy the maknae. Tao pouted and folded his arms. The bottle stopped on Xiumin.
“Ha Ha Ha,” Tao said showing the members his tongue. Xiumin made a face and squinted his eyes.
“I choose dare. Bring it on,” he said sighing.
“Do a back flip,” Kris said suddenly.
“Whoaaaa!! I’m not Lay,” Xiumin said widening his eyes.
“That’s the beauty of it,” Kris replied with a cunning smile.
“Oh I hate you,” Xiumin made a face and bent backwards to get ready. He’d done a back flip once in his life and had sworn to never do it again but here he was, doing it again.
“Woaahhhhh,” the other members gasped as Xiumin did the back flip. He almost slipped.
“Hyung that wasn’t even that hard. Let me choose next time,” Tao nudged Kris.
The bottle was spun once again and this time it stopped on Luhan. Everybody cheered loudly.
“Truth or Dare?” Xiumin asked raising his eyebrows.
“Dare, of course.” Luhan replied with a calm smile on his face.
“OH I have one,” Tao said raising his hand.
“Calm down, we’re not in a school,” Lay said and slapped his back.
“Take of Xiumin Lay hyung’s socks,” he said with an evil smile.
“Umm okay!” Luhan said with a flat face. “What’s so bad about that?”
“Did I mention that you have to do it with your mouth?”
“Whaaatttt!!!” Luhan jumped back. The members started laughing. You began to laugh too. The atmosphere was lightening up for you.
“I love that one,” Xiumin said and clapped.
You looked at Chen from the corner of your eyes. He looked so innocent and adorable looking at the member’s laughing. Little did he know that his smile lightened up your day. It was like warmth that your heart felt. He turned his head but you quickly looked away.
Luhan went down on his knees while Lay took off his shoes.
“Why are you guys doing this to me?” he whined.
“Not so exciting now huh?” Xiumin said with a cheeky smile.
“I hate all of you,” he said while placing his mouth close to Lay’s feet. “Good thing, he actually washes his feet.” Luhan leaned in and closed his eyes. “Oh I hate this,” he mumbled and then without stopping he quickly took the socks off.
Everybody clapped for him. You took the turn to spin the bottle this time. It stopped on Kris.
“Truth or Dare?” you asked with a meek voice.
“Truth,” he replied.
“Whattt!!! I thought we made a rule nobody could choose truth. We had to choose dare,” said Lay.
“What who made that rule?” you asked. “Why do you guys even ask ‘truth or dare’ when people can’t choose that?”
“We made that a long time ago because the game is more fun that way,” Chen replied. You weren’t expecting him to, since he never talked that much. Your heart fluttered on the inside but on the outside you pushed yourself to show a flat face.
“Alright, alright!” Kris lifted his hands. “I choose dare.”
“Do a sexy dance,” Lay said glaring at him.
“Sexy dance? What does that mean?” he replied, making a face.
“You know, where you move like this,” Lay said waving his hand.
“That makes no sense,” Kris replied.
“I know,” Tao said snapping his fingers. “Do it with _________.”
“Huh! Me?” your heart sank in surprise. Your eyes immediately turned to Chen. He seemed just as surprised and a little upset too. You didn’t quite understand why.
“You’re sexy, Kris hyung is sexy. It would be perfect.” Tao said.
“Tao,” Chen glared at him and then hit him on the back.
“What?” Tao snapped back.
“Aish, stop,” Kris shushed ever body and offered you his hand. You didn’t want to refuse because that would be mean. You looked at Chen as if asking for his approval. He looked away. There was no choice but to Kris’s hand. He immediately pulled you up and close to him. Luhan and began singing.
‘This moment feels like I was born as a child who knew nothing
I closed my eyes again in case it would be a dream
You were standing in fron of my desperate self and praying
Just once, I want to walk side by side with you’
“Come on Chen sing with me,” he nudged Chen. Chen pouted and shook his head.
Kris ran his hands along the side of your body and then pulled you closer to his chest. He moved his face near you neck and pretended to kiss you.
“Oh woooo!! *whistles* “ the guys cheered while clapping. You blushed and pulled away.
“That was fun,” Kris said winking at you as you settled down. You didn’t know what to say so just smiled back.
I want to spin the bottle this time Lay said taking it from Xiumin. It stopped on Lay.
“What sorcery is this?” he exclaimed.
“Aaaa I have one,” Luhan said excitedly. He got up and ran to the corner of the room. He returned with a small box in his hand.
“What’s that?”
“Baoziiiiii,” Luhan replied with a cheeky smile. “Feed those to Kris hyung.”
“Oh wait and did I mention that you have to do this with your mouth?” he said finally finishing.
“Whaaa,” Lay said pouting. “You know how much I hate close interactions.”
“I did it, you should do it too. Unless you want a punishment.”
Lay glared at Luhan and took the box from him. He really was uncomfortable with such stuff. You were thanking God that the bottle hadn’t stopped on you. You could only imagine what the guys would tell you to do.
You couldn’t help but laugh at Lay feeding Kris the baozi with his mouth. You felt like somebody was tickling your stomach. Kris was smiling right at Lay. For some reason he was enjoying it. Lay frowned and picked up the next one from his mouth and then offered it to Kris.
“Happy?” he asked the members, finishing the job. Everybody clapped once again. Xiumin spun the bottle next. Surprisingly it stopped on you.
“Oh no!” you mumbled. Nobody knew what to say because you was always so quiet.
“Uhhhhhhh,” Luhan said closing one of his eyes acting like he was thinking.
“Ummm kiss someone?” Lay said with a flat face.
“What?” you gasped.
“That’s the least you can do after what all of us did,” Lay tried to persuade you.
“ Kiss someone?” you repeated in disbelief.
“Come on! We are all oppas here!” Kris said winking at you.
“Kiss Chen,” Tao shouted.
“Whaaaa!” your eyes widened with surprise. Xiumin began laughing at your reaction.
“Why are you so surprised?” he asked. “You guys barely talk. It will be good to break the ice.”
“Aniyo,” you said shaking your head.
“If you don’t do it then you’ll have to receive the punishment and I don’t think you want to go down that road ___________.” Lay said with a serious expression. You turned to Chen. He seemed to be very calm. He was neither smiling or frowning. All he was doing was looking at you with his sparkling eyes.
“Come on,” Tao pushed you.
You got up and so did Chen. Your hands began shaking and your heart raced till the point you knew it would explode. You gulped a spit and walked closer to him. Without looking at him you quickly gave him a peck on the cheek and turned around.
“Umm what was that?” Luhan said making a face.
“I kissed him!” you replied.
“We definitely meant kiss on the lips,” he said with a mischievous smile.
“Are you kidding me?” you asked, getting a little mad.
“Nope,” he shook his head. You felt like someone held your hand. It was Chen. You turned to look at him.
“Do it!” he said with a serious face.
“No!” you snapped back in anger. You didn’t mean too but the situation was so sensitive you had no other choice. The laughter that had filled the air a few moments ago was gone. The room fell silent. Chen’s hand slowly slipped out of yours. The next second he was leaving the room. You didn’t know what to do. Run after him or stay inside. If you stayed inside the glares from the others were going to burn holes in your body and if you went outside you would have to face Chen.
“___________ everything alright?” Kris asked you.
“Huh!” you shook your head. “I think I should go talk to him.” you said trying to avoid the other members.
You sighed as soon as you walked out of the room. Each step that you took to find Chen was making you more and more nervous.
“Oppa where is Chen?” you asked your brother as he walked past you.
“I saw him go up on the roof. Why?” he asked.
“Uh nothing. I have to give him something.”
“Oh alright,” he said and walked away.
You slowly climbed the stairs, dreading the moment you’d have to confront him.
“Oppa!” you said his name opening the door to the roof. He ignored you. You walked up to him but made sure to stay behind so he won’t see your face.
“Mianhe!” you mumbled. He didn’t respond. “I didn’t mean to say what I said.” You tried once again but all to no avail. You wanted to cry.
“Say something,” Your voice chocked. He’d made up his mind not to say anything. This was it. You’d messed up the little chances you had of ever telling him that you liked him. You turned to leave, hoping he would stop you. You were at the door when he finally spoke.
“Why did you refuse to kiss me?” he asked. You didn’t know what to say. Chen turned around. His eyes were red and puffy. Your heart felt heavy. You were the reason for those tears and that’s the last thing you wanted.
“Why are you crying?” you asked hesitantly. Chen walked and stopped close to you. He swiftly slipped his hand behind your back and then used the other to remove the strands of hair from your face.
“Do you like me?” he asked. You felt tongue tied. Your eyes wandered from side to side with nervousness.
“_________!” he shook you. You were still thinking about what to say when Chen pressed his lips against yours. For a second you couldn't believe but as reality started to sink in you tried to push him away. Something made you stop though. You gave in and stepped back as he pinned you to the wall. You could never imagine him like this. He was very soft an gentle.
When he pulled away he had a huge smile on his face. You returned the smile.
“I’m sorry,” he said scratching his head. You shook your head, trying to tell him that he didn't need to apologize.
“_________, will you go out with me?” he asked.
“What no!” you said suddenly then bit your tongue for speaking to soon. Chen looked at you with a confused expression. He seemed to be disappointed.
“I’m scared of my brother,” you mumbled.
“We don’t have to tell everybody,” he said holding your hand.
“But..”
“Don’t be scared. I’ll be with you.”
He lifted your chin so you could look at him. His eyes showed reassurance.
You squeezed his hand. He took that as a yes and hugged you immediately.
“Thank you,” he whispered. A smile spread on your face. He understood you without you having to say anything.

Your teddy bear didn’t seem too fluffy as it usually did, that morning. You opened your eyes in confusion, only to find yourself in Sehun’s arms. “Oh no! Did I fall asleep while playing again?” you asked him. He looked at you with a faint, sexy smile and nodded.
“The guys must hate me,” you cringed your nose.
Sehun chuckled and leaned in to kiss you. “They don’t hate you.”
“Oh Gosh! Get a room!!” D.O suddenly came in the room and said causing both you and Sehun to jump in surprise. Both of you looked at him standing, waving one of his hands and using the other to cover his eyes.
“We are in a room. In my room actually.” Sehun said rolling his eyes. You couldn’t stop giggling.
“Oppaaa!! We are not doing anything,” you said.
“Now gooo!” Sehun said impatiently.
“Aish! I was just here to tell you guys that Kai and I are going out so if you wanted to tag along,” he asked slowly sliding his hands off of his face.
“Mmmmm sounds good,” you said excitedly. “After all, Sehun should be buying me some new stuff since we are ‘officially’ going out now.”
You winked and gave him a peck on the cheek.
“Please don’t start again!” D.O said shaking his head. Sehun picked up a cushion and threw it at him. He dodged it and ran out of the room.
“Don’t do that to oppa!” you pouted and started to get up. Sehun pulled you on top of him.
“I won’t. But you have to call me oppa!” he asked.
“Oppa?” you repeated and a fit of laughter took you.
“Why not? You call the other members oppa,” he said, sounding irritated.
“You want me to call you oppa?.. Oh please Sehun, you’re only 5 months older than me. Besides calling you oppa would be so weird.” You gave him a peck on the lips. “I need to get ready. You get ready too okay.”
You got out of the bed and ran into the shower. Sehun flustered his eyebrows and got up too. You thought he was joking about it but he really did want you to call him oppa.
*************************************
“It’s so cold,” you said rubbing your hands and then squeezing them under Sehun’s arms.
“This is why I didn’t want to come,” he said making a face.
“Stop being such a woozie Sehunie. Go buy her something,” Kai said winking at you.
“Oppaaaa!” you whined as your cheeks blushed a light pink. Kai chuckled and pushed the two of you to the other side.
You and Sehun wandered around the store looking for winter cloths.
“I need a new leather jacket.”
“Aish that’s too expensive,” he replied.
“Haii, what does that mean? You won’t get me one?” you asked with surprise.
“Get something else,” he replied sounding annoyed. Something was bothering him and you had just now noticed that.
“Is everything okay?” you asked.
He didn’t reply. He seemed to be lost in his own world.
“Sehun ah,” you nudged him.
“Hmm,” he looked at you. “What?”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing!” he said and quickly turned around. It wasn’t quick enough though because you saw the hint of frustration on his face. He seemed so happy earlier that morning but somehow his mood had shifted.
“__________ah, do you want ice cream?” D.O asked from across the store. You jumped around at the name of ice cream and ran towards him.
“Kai and I are planning to go there after this,” he said.
“What’s going on?” Sehun asked walking up behind you guys.
“Oppas are making a plan to go eat ice cream,” you told him.
“Ice cream? In this weather?” he asked widening his eyes.
“Ye,” you nodded.
“No no! we’ll get sick,” he said, holding your hand and pulling you.
“Sehun, stop being such a kid,” you pouted. “I want ice cream.” He turned around and looked at you and then the older boys. He squinted his eyes and made a face.
“I’ll have coffee instead,” he said and rolled his eyes.
“Yayy,” you clapped your hands with excitement.
***************************************************
“You scare me sometimes,” Sehun said looking at you amusingly, as you licked your ice cream. “It’s about to start snowing any time now.”
You laughed. “You confuse me sometimes. An hour ago you seemed to be upset and now you’re fine. What’s up Sehun?”
He cringed his nose and furrowed his eyebrows once again. You got a faint idea of what he might be upset about. “Ohhhh is it because I don’t call you oppa?” You asked.
“Maybe,” Sehun mumbled trying not to look at you.
You began to laugh again and lightly punched him on the shoulder. “Why would I ever call you oppa?”
“What are you guys talking about?” Kai came and sat next to Sehun.
“Sehun wants me…” you began but Sehun cut you.
“Nothing!” he slammed his coffee on the table and got up. He completely took you by surprise.
“Where are you going?” both you and Kai asked at the same time.
“Nowhere,” he said and left.
“What’s wrong with him?” Kai asked turning to you.
“Aaah, I’ll tell you later. I should go after him.”
You followed Sehun out of the store but he was long gone. Hours passed away but you didn’t give up. You looked in almost every store. He wouldn’t even pick up his phone. You were starting to get mad. He was being really childish.
Your phone buzzed. It was a message from Kai.
‘He’s at home..’
‘Are you kiddin’ me?’
‘No..!’
‘Lol alright, I’ll be there in a bit’
*********************************************************
You tip toed into Exo’s dorm. Kai was sitting on the couch with Suho.
“Where is he?” you whispered.
“In the room,” Kai replied back.
“Shhhh!” you made a face and glared at him.
“Sorry,” he apologized.
“Sehun..” you poked your head inside his room. He wasn’t there. You could hear the water running in the bathroom. It stopped. The lock clicked open. You got nervous and took a step back bumping into the night stand. The glass fell on the floor and broke into thousands of tiny pieces.
“Oh no!” you gasped and quickly began to collect them.
“_________!” Sehun said your name coming out of the bathroom. “What are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here? Umm how about you tell me, what are you doing here?” you asked still gathering the pieces.
“I don’t want to talk to you,” he said folding his arms and looking away.
“At least come and help me,” you said, slightly angry.
“No!” he snapped back.
“Sehun!” you said turning around but a small piece cut your hand. “Ahhhh!” you cried in pain. Sehun jumped around immediately and lunged towards you.
“What happened? Oh Gosh! Why aren’t you careful?” he held your hand as blood started coming out.
“Wait here,” he ran to get the first aid kit. He soon returned and made you sit on the bed.
You began to cry.
“It might hurt a little bit. Hold my other hand.” He offered you his arm. You were dreading the moment the alcohol swab was going to touch your skin. Sehun slowly brought it closer.
“Aaaaaa oppa!” you said and closed your eyes immediately. Sehun suddenly looked up at the sound of the word he’d been dying to hear from you. A smile spread on his face as he saw your wet cheeks and closed eyes. You looked like a little baby. You heard him giggle so you opened your eyes.
“Why are you laughing?” you pouted. He shook his head and continued to dress your wound.
“You can let go off my hand now. My blood circulation might stop,” he said as he finished.
“Mianhamnida,” you said and let go. You were waiting for him to say something but he didn’t. You looked up. He was looking at you the same way he was earlier that morning.
“What?” you asked.
He shook his head and pulled you into a hug.
“I love you ________.”
“I love you too oppa.” You said. You could feel his hug tighten on you. If calling him oppa was going to make him happy then that’s exactly what you were going to call him.
“Now let’s go get you that jacket,” he said patting your back.

“_________ah, why did you leave the party so early?” your mother came and sat beside you. You didn’t bother turning around and looking at her. You knew she was going to get worried seeing your puffy eyes and then a thousand questions were going to follow, asking you what was wrong.
“I had a headache so I left,” you mumbled from under the sheets.
“Alright,” she said. You could hear disappointment in her voice.
“Umma,” you stopped her. “Is there something you want to tell me?”
“Aniyo.”
“Please, tell me,” you insisted. She sat beside you once again and sighed.
“Yixing’s father proposed today,” she said. You felt somebody had just dropped a bomb on you. This was it. Fate’s way of telling you that your little love story was never going to happen. It was also a punishment for you because you knew well that it was your fault.
“_______ah, say something,” she nudged you. She started to pull the sheet from your face but you clenched it tightly.
“That’s great,” you said trying to cheer her up.
“Ye,” she sighed. Something seemed missing. She didn’t sound too happy. You were going to wait and ask her the next morning. At the moment you just needed some time to yourself.
**************************************************************
You looked at the thousands of unanswered missed calls on your phone. You wanted to pick up the phone when he called but you knew it was only going to lead to disaster. It had been a month and you hadn’t seen him. You changed your bus routes. You stopped eating at the usual restaurants. You were doing anything and everything, to avoid him.
“Ummmaa I’m home,” you yelled through the corridor. “I didn’t bring bread because I think it’s going to start raining soon but I’ll be sure to pick…” you stood stunned in the living room as you saw Yixing, his father and your mother.
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” you choked on your own voice. “Umm, I’m going to go change.”
Your mother gave you a warm, comforting smile. It seemed like she had something to say. “Don’t change. Come sit down with us.”
“I brought Yixing here too today,” his father began speaking. “Because both your mom and I wanted to make this announcement.” You knew exactly what he was going to say. You dreaded it and you hated yourself for dreading it. “We are going to get married soon.” He said with such excitement holding your mother’s hand that for a second you felt jealous. You were jealous of their happiness.
“Well what do you guys think?” he asked bringing you back to reality.
“Huh,” you responded as Yixing shook your elbow. “That’s great! When?”
“Sometime next month. We were thinking, the second Saturday?” he asked. “Oh and I’d suggest that you and your mother start packing. You guys will soon be moving in.”
You hadn’t even thought about that. Living in the same house with a person who you loved and having to call him your step brother. You couldn’t do it. You just couldn’t. You excused yourself politely and left the living room.
“It’s getting chilly out here,” Yixing said opening the door to the tiny balcony.
“Please go away,” you said without looking at him.
“You don’t have to hide those tears from me,” he said, now standing right besides you. He slid his hand around your waist. You tried to struggle but he won. You were now wrapped around his arms tightly.
“I feel pathetic. I felt jealous when they were giving me the news. I was jealous of their happiness. Can you imagine this? I’m such a horrible person.” You said between your sniffles.
“Shhhhhh,” don’t say that he said and kissed you on your temple.
“I can’t do this. I just can’t.” you said. He rested his chin on your head. You could feel his tears running down your hair. You pulled back and looked at him.
“I’ve loved once and I’ve lost. I don’t want that to happen to me again,” he said while shaking his head. “I don’t want to lose you.”
You tried to slip your hands out of his trembling hands but he didn’t let go. He didn’t want too. He was trying his best to keep you from going.
“Don’t you see how happy they are? Do you really want to do this to them?” you asked.
“I don’t want to let go off you ______.”
“You have too. For them.”
“No!” he shook his head. “I’d given up on life but you showed me that I could keep moving on. You gave me hope. You made me fall for you. And now you’re telling me that you want to leave?”
“I know it’s my fault but I don’t want it to affect them. Besides I’m leaving for Canada after the wedding.”
“What” he gasped. “No, no no!” he repeated pulling you back into an embrace. “You can’t do that.”
“I have too.” You began to cry once again. “You and I both know it won’t work like this.”
He pulled back and joined his soft lips to yours. Your wet cheeks touched his. He slid his hand to the back of your head and pinned you against the wall.
“We shouldn’t do this,” you said between kisses.
“Please don’t stop me,” he replied.
“You’ll find someone better than me.”
“I’ll never find anyone like you.”
“Oppa..”
“Shhh,” he shussed you by reconnecting his lips to yours.
***********************************************************
“Seriously, I don’t understand the need for me to try on a wedding dress too. It’s your wedding not mine,” you whined as your mother pushed you into the dressing room. You were already annoyed at the fact that she’d invited Yixing. You could barely make eye contact with him after that night in the balcony. You wanted to make it pretty clear that there was nothing between you and him.
“Yixing, do you want to try something too?”
“Uh, no thank you,” he rejected politely. “Oh come on, try this one. I’m sure your father will love it.” He surrendered to your mother’s pleading and took the tuxedo from her.
You and him both got out of the dressing room at the same time, coincidently.
“Why are you wearing that?” you asked him and turned to face your mother. You were a little surprised as you saw Yixing’s dad standing beside her.
“Now don’t they look perfect?” he asked your mother.
“Perfect indeed,” she said with a big smile on her face.
Both you and him were confused.
“What do you mean?” you asked. Your mother stepped forward and cupped your face with her hands.
“Did you really think that you were ready to make such a big sacrifice at such a young age? How dare you think of my happiness before yours.”
“Umma what are you saying?” you interrupted.
“Shhhh,” she placed her finger on your lips. A tear rolled down her cheek. Your heart sank. You could bear anything in the world except see your mother cry. “Yixing’s father and I have already received the joys of being with someone we loved in our lives but you two,” she now looked at Yixing too. “It’s your first time and you guys are throwing it away like nothing had happened between you.”
“Umma how did you?” you asked really embarrassed.
“We saw you two in the balcony the other night.”
You were disgusted by your existence. You couldn’t do one small good deed for your own mother who had sacrificed so much for you. You hugged her. “I never meant for any of this to happen..” you said between sobs.
“I know honey, I know.” she stroked your hair. “I just want you to be happy.”
“We want both of you to be happy.” Yixing’s father added. “I’ve seen my son go through a lot and I certainly don’t want to be the reason for his misery.”
You pulled back and looked at Yixing. He seemed hurt too. He felt just as bad as you did.
“I’m so sorry appa,” he mumbled not being able to make eye contact.
“Don’t be,” he said pushing you towards him. “Look at the two of you. You guys make a perfect couple.” He wiped the tears out his eyes. “You guys deserve to be together.”
The more they said that, the more you hated yourself.
“________ah, don’t hate yourself for this.” Your mother said. You were surprised as to how she could read your thoughts.
“He loves you a lot.” She said while nodding. “Do it for me.”
You felt Yixing hold your hand and interlace his fingers into yours. You were still unsure of what to do. He, without any hesitation planted a kiss on your cheek.
You heard your mother and his father chuckle.
“They are so innocent and pure,” she said.
“Yes they are,” he replied.
A smile spread on your face. You tightened your grip on Yixing’s hand and looked up at him. He was looking right back at you with a reassuring smile.
You didn’t have to leave after all..

You walked into the house, throwing your hand bag off to Narnia. You took off your shoes and left them in the corridor. You looked at your mother for a quick second but continued walking. Just then something hit you. She was smiling. She was smiling looking at something on her phone. Last time you saw her smiling was five years ago when your appa was still alive. You slowly walked up to her and sat beside her.
“Umma..”
“Huh?” she jumped up in surprise.
A smile spread on your face as she tried to hide her phone. You felt like your role had been reversed. Usually you were the one hiding your phone from her.
“Seriously?” you raised your eyebrows.
“When did you get home?” she asked.
“Just now..” you mumbled.
“How was work?”
“I’m quitting soon. I hate this job,” you said with frustration.
She nodded, pretending to listen but you knew well that in the back of her head she was thinking something else. Something far too important, hence the faint smile on her face.
“Umma,” you shook her.
“Aish, I’m listening,” she made a face.
“Just tell me what’s going on. You and I both know you won’t be able to hide it forever.”
Her smile disappeared for a second but she immediately recovered it.
“I think it’s time I tell you.”
“Time? What? What are you talking about?”
“Shhhhh..” she nodded her head and made you sit next to her on the couch.
“________, I’ve been seeing this guy for a while ..” she felt your hand slip out of her. You felt a slight twinge of pain. You’d always seen your umma with your appa. They had to be together, always. “Well sort of ishhh,” she corrected herself.
“What do you mean? For how long?” you asked after a while.
“Five months.”
Your mouth fell open. Five months and you didn’t have a single clue about it. Disappointment made its way to your face and you turned sideways to hide the forming tears. Both you and her sat in silence for a long time. You could see her playing with her fingers. She did that when she was nervous.
You raised your head slightly to look at her. The face that was shining brightly a half hour ago was dull. The life that you’d seen on it was gone once again. It suddenly hit you, how selfish you were being. Her happiness was above all. At the moment, her feelings were more important. It was her life and she deserved to be happy. She had lived in agony for the past five years. If life was giving her a second chance than you had no right to come in her way.
You slowly slid your hand on top of hers. She immediately looked at you. You turned to her and held her face.
“So when am I seeing him?” you asked and winked to avoid getting teary eyed. A smile spread on your mothers face and she embraced you.
“Soon.. very soon,” she whispered to you.
****************************************************************
“Tuck in your shirt properly,” your mother nagged you as the two of you waited for the door to open.
“Umma I’m not a teenager anymore. Stop doing that,” you pouted.
She smiled at you. “And did I mention that he also has a s…” before she could finish, the door opened and a guy much much younger than your mother stood on the opposite side.
You gave him a strange look. Your mother could not be seeing him. He was far too young for her. In fact he seemed to be around your age. He smiled at the two of you and moved aside so both you and her could enter.
“________ah, come in,” your mother pulled you. You remained your eye contact with him. He seemed to be getting a little uncomfortable with the way you were looking at him.
“Annyeonghaseyo,” you heard a voice say from behind. You turned around, to find an older guy entering the living room. It finally dawned on you. Your mother was trying to tell you that he had a son.
You greeted him and all of you settled down. He seemed like a really nice guy, a little dominating but nice.
“Yixing, why don’t you show her around?” he asked his son, sensing the awkward atmosphere in the room.
‘Yixing’ got up immediately as if waiting for someone to tell him to leave. It seemed like somebody had sucked the life out of him. Still, there was something about him that was attracting you towards him. For a while, you forgot why you were at their house.
“Come on,” he mumbled walking past you. You got up and followed.
“There really isn’t anything to show,” he said after showing you the balcony and then stepping into his own room.
You took a deep breath and looked around. The room was plain with only a few fixed artifacts. You hesitated but then sat on his bed. You felt him cringe a little but he came and sat beside you too.
“Why the flat face?” you asked. He didn’t respond but continued to stare into space. You felt like you were bothering him. Maybe he was just as upset as you were when you first found out about your parents. You thought for a while and began again.
“Listen, I know it’s a little upsetting to see our parents move on in life but I think we should both take a step back and let them figure this out. We should be happy for them.”
Still no response. Maybe you were just annoying him. You thought it better to just get up and leave. You were at the door when he mumbled something.
“What?” you turned around and asked.
“I’m happy for them,” he said pulling a fake smile. You could still see how upset he was. You went back and sat beside him.
“It’ll be alright soon,” you tried to comfort him. You felt him slide a little. You didn’t realize that you’d been sitting a little too close to him. You looked at him from the corner of your eyes. There was a mysterious aura. You wanted to know what was going on inside his head.
“________, Yixing, dinner is ready,” you heard your mother’s voice.
“We should get used to that,” you said with a cheeky smile. He looked at you with a flat face once again. You could see that he was trying hard to smile but something inside of him was stopping him.
***************************************************
“So do you like him?” you mom asked as the two of you settled on the couch. You were relieved that you were finally back home.
“He’s great,” you said but your thoughts were elsewhere. You were still thinking about Yixing.
“What do you think about Yixing?” she asked.
“Him? Why him?” you asked defensively.
“I might need your help with something.” You looked at her so she could finish. “Yixing’s father is very worried about him.”
“He should be. There is clearly something wrong with him” you rolled your eyes.
“________, I’m serious.”
“What is it?” you asked.
“He just got out of a two year relationship so he is really devastated.”
“Whaaaaaa,” you gasped. She nodded apologetically.
“He wants you to hang out with him some more. He feels that you can make him feel better especially since the two of you will soon be siblings.”
You wished she hadn’t said that. You had found him very charming and attractive the moment you saw him. How was this going to work out?
******************************************************
You secretly wished he wouldn’t pick up his phone. One bell, two, three.. you were about to hang up when he suddenly picked up.
“Hello!”
“Uh Hi,” you choked. “Umm I don’t think you remember me but I came over to your house with my mother a few days ago.”
“Ye, I remember.”
“So I was wondering if you wanted to hang out or something?” you asked.
“Hang out?” he repeated in form of a question.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to. I mean I totally understand what..” you bit your tongue.
“Where do you want to go,” he asked.
“Sun set park?” you asked.
“Okay I’ll be there,” he said and hung up.
**************************************************
You looked around for thirty minutes but there was no sign of Yixing. He stood you up. You weren’t surprised at all. His attitude was getting the best of him.
“Looking for someone?” he asked suddenly coming up behind you. You jumped around clenching your fist to calm your nerves.
“Did I scare you?” he asked stuffing his mouth with cotton candy. He seemed a lot better than last time. Something was clearly wrong with him.
“Did you get me some?” you asked.
“You can have this one,” he offered. You took some and shoved it in your mouth. The two of you began walking.
“So how’s everything?” you asked.
“Great,” he nodded. You didn’t know what else to say. You felt very awkward around him. You were going to give it another shot so you began to speak but he immediately cut you off.
“You don’t have to do this.”
“Do what?” you asked.
“This!” he said now turning to you. “Do you really think I wouldn’t know that my dad told you to do this?”
You felt embarrassed. You didn’t quite know how to answer his question so instead you looked at the ground.
“I’m sorry,” you mumbled.
“Don’t be.”
“No I’m sorry that she left you,” you said. You could feel him cringe a little but he recovered immediately. He didn’t utter a single word. You wanted to look at him but the situation wasn’t allowing you to do that.
“I’ve moved on,” he said but his voice chocked.
“You don’t have t lie to me,” you said. He settled on a bench and buried his face in his hands. “I loved her a lot,” he murmured after a while. You wanted to comfort him. In your heart, you felt extreme hatred for the girl who’d left him like this. He seemed to be so broken. You had this sudden urge to hug him and that’s exactly what you did.
“You’ll move on,” you whispered to him.
**************************************************************
Four months passed by in a breeze. Having lunch with Yixing became a routine for you now. You had no idea he worked in the office opposite yours. In fact you had started to love work once again. He seemed a lot happier to now. Sometimes when he felt generous, he would gift you with a faint smile. That’s all you needed. You just wanted him to be happy. A guy as charming as him deserved to be happy.
“Guess who?” someone asked placing their hands on your eyes.
“Are you really going to do this with me?” you said while giggling. He chuckled as he removed his hands and sat across from you.
“Are you coming to the party tonight?” he asked. You nodded.
“Great! I’ll introduce you to all of my friends.” You nodded once again staring at him. His sweet, honey like voice always melted in your eyes. The shine in his eyes, the faint smile on his lips and glowing skin always captivated you. Little did you know, what you were getting yourself into.
*********************************************
“Having fun?” he asked handing you a glass of juice.
“ Ye,” you said trying to avoid his eyes. “Uh, I need to go use the bathroom.” You immediately excused yourself. Earlier that day, after lunch you’d come to a realization that staying around Yixing was going to ruin your life. You had no idea when you’d fallen for him. You’d fallen hard because every time you saw him your heart ached. You knew you couldn’t ever be with him.
You were taken aback when you found him in the room as you got out of the bathroom.
“Why are you avoiding me?” he asked.
“Avoiding? What are you talking about?” you tried to bring out your playful side. Your eyes wandered from one corner of the room to the other nervously. The very next second Yixing grabbed your hand and pinned you to the wall. He connected his lips to yours. For a brief second you had no idea what was happening. You were kissing him back. You suddenly pushed him back.
“We can’t do this..” you said as tears began rolling out of your eyes.
You waited for him to say something but he didn’t. You couldn’t stay there any longer. It was time for you to leave.

Both you and Kris burst into the apartment half drunk.
“You should never drink on your own wedding,” Kris said as he stumbled.
You hit him on his shoulder. “You tricked me into drinking.“
He grabbed your hand and pulled you closer. “You’ll pay for this Oppa,” you said, squinting your eyes.
“Oh yeah? How so?” he said sliding his hands around your waist. You pulled away and began to run but he grabbed you once again and picked you up this time.
“Aish, what are you doing? Put me down!” you asked childishly.
“Aneyo,” he shook his head and walked towards the room. “Welcome to our room,” Kris announced. A smile spread on your face. He brought his face closer to yours and gave you a light peck on the lips. The next second, you found yourself in bed with Kris on top of you.
“I’ve waited long enough for this,” he whispered sliding the strap of your wedding dress off of your shoulders.
*******************************************************************
You found yourself tightly wrapped in Kris’s arms the next morning.
“Oppa,” you whispered but he didn’t respond. You carefully slid out of bed and walked to the kitchen. You were familiar with most of the things in the house but it was still new to you. You didn’t live with him before you got married but you visited occasionally. You’d known Kris for three years. Two as a friend and then one year as his girl friend. He had finally proposed 3 months back. Everything happened so quickly that you were still trying to sink in most of it.
“Last night was amazing,” Kris said suddenly appearing from behind and holding you.
“Huh!” you jumped but calmed yourself immediately. You were smiling. He turned you around to face him.
“You’re still blushing after last night?” he asked with his classic sexy smile. You couldn’t look him in the eyes. His presence still made you nervous.
“Are you happy?” he asked. You looked at him, as if trying to tell him that of course you were happy. Was there a reason to not be? He understood you and leaned in to kiss you.
*********************************************************
“I’m just saying you could have talked a little. You just sat in the corner and stared at us,” Kris said with a slightly annoyed tone while entering the apartment.
“And I’m just saying that you could have introduced me to them. You just went on and on while I had to sit awkwardly. Besides I didn’t even know them or what they were talking about.”
“Oh yeah, well now they think you lack confidence.”
“So?”
“So, I don’t want people to think my wife is like that,” Kris said angrily this time.
“Okay calm down Kris. What’s the big deal?” you asked.
“It is a big deal! You do this every time we meet somebody new. Why can’t you be more like the life of the party and introduce yourself and look confident?”
“Kris you know that’s not how I am.”
“Well then CHANGE!” he said glaring at you.
You didn’t want to frustrate him more therefore you just nodded your head in agreement. Four months in your marriage and you guys were already having your first argument.
“Are you still mad?” you asked him while slipping in bed. He was busy reading his book.
“Kris!” you nudged him.
“Huhmmm,” he took his eyes off his book for a second and then went back to reading it. “No!”
You took a sigh of relief and went to bed.
******************************************
You thought that argument was something you and him were going to forget about but Kris’s behavior changed completely. He would nag you about the littlest of the things. He hated your job because it wasn’t good enough. He hated the fact that you didn’t wear branded cloths. He didn’t like it when you showed up at his practices uninvited. The list went on and on. It wasn’t like you weren’t trying. You were slowly changing yourself and it was very uncomfortable but if you had to please Kris then that is what you were going to do.
“What’s this?” Kris asked after taking the first bite of his meal.
“What’s wrong?”
“Did you taste it?”
You shook your head.
“Then taste it,” he made a face. You did as he said. It was a little salty. Kris suddenly pushed the plate to the side.
“I’m tired of this ________. I really am.”
You lost your patience too this time. “Stop it Kris, Just stop it,” you said standing up.
Kris stood up too.
“Why are you always like this? Can you not see that I’m trying so hard? ..but nothing ever seems to please you.” You said with a crying voice.
“Stop being so childish!”
“I’m not being childish,” you yelled.
“_________, lower your voice.”
“No I won’t” you snapped back. You quickly realized that you shouldn’t have said that. Kris walked towards you and slapped you across the face. You were horrified. Tears were flowing like a stream. Instead of apologizing Kris turned around and left.
***************************************************
Your eyes burnt from crying for 3 hours straight. Kris still hadn’t come back. You wanted him to come back but a little part of you was scared of him.
You heard the door click open and you immediately closed your eyes. You could hear his heavy footsteps and with each one he took your heart sank a little more. He slipped in besides you and held your shoulder.
“____________ah, I’m sorry,” he said. That’s it. That’s all he could come up with after what he’d done. He forced you to turn around. He knew you weren’t sleeping. You looked at him. Not a single sign of guilt was visible on his face. He pulled you closer and kissed you on the cheek that he had slapped earlier. He didn’t just stop there. He continued towards your neck and began taking off your cloths. This was his way of apologizing to you. You weren’t the type who would state their own opinion on the table. This was your weak point and he knew that well. You submitted to his desire because once again you didn’t want to displease him.
******************************************************
“Whaaaaaaa,” you looked at the little red sign on the stick. A smile broke on your face. This was the first time you’d received happiness in the past eight months. Tears of joy rolled down your cheeks. You were sure when Kris heard the news he’d jump with excitement too.
*********************************************************
“Doesn’t that couple look cute?” you asked looking at a pregnant girl with a guy walking besides her.
“Ye,” Kris replied not really interested in the conversation.
“What do you think about having a baby?” you asked smiling secretly.
“Aish, too much responsibility.” He snickered. “I think if we should have a baby it should at least be 2 to 3 years from now. we shouldn’t rush with everything.”
Your heart sank once again. You gasped in surprise and disappointment.
“What happened?” he asked.
“Nothing,” you said shaking your head. You had no idea how you were going to tell him. You couldn’t imagine what he was going to say. Get rid of the baby? Leave you? Accept it? You had no idea.
“Kris..” you began to say but he interrupted.
“____________, why did you bring me here? It’s so chilly outside.” He shrugged his shoulders with annoyance and turned around to walk back home. He left you there, devastated. You watched him from behind. This wasn’t the Kris you had fallen in love with. Or maybe you were wrong and he was always like this but love had had made you blind. It had almost been a year in to your marriage and no matter how hard you tried to tell yourself that you were happy, you weren’t. That was the plain truth.
************************************************************
Kris came home the next day and it was quieter than usual.
“__________ ah, where are you?” but nobody was there to respond.
“_____________,” he said your name again but still no response.
He walked in the room. It was completely dark. He turned on the lights and sat on the bed. The sound of paper scrunching under him made him get up. He looked at it. It was your hand writing. He began reading:
“Dear Kris,
I love you and I always have. But I can’t live like this anymore. I’m sorry. I really am. You probably have no idea what I’m talking about but I promise I tried really hard everyday to be what you wanted me to be. I can’t live like that anymore. It’s too superficial for me. When you fell in love with me I thought you fell in love with whatever faults or qualities I had but I was wrong. It’s not your fault, it’s my fault because I fell in love with a person who wanted all of this and I can’t be like that. I’m sorry if I’ve hurt you but I don’t want to be hurt anymore either. It’s been long and painful and I just want to spare both of us. I noticed you weren’t happy with this marriage either. You were still managing it because I was your responsibility. I really do respect you for that. This decision was hard for me but I am leaving Kris! I’m leaving. I hope you find someone who will love you and be of your standards. I’m sorry if I’ve disappointed you. [I left the divorce papers in the top left drawer]
I will always love you…
________________”
A tear rolled down Kris’s cheek and fell on the letter. He didn’t see this coming but even he knew that this marriage wasn’t going anywhere. Maybe this was for the best or was it really?
********************************************************
4 years later…
Kris walked hand in hand with Eunsun down the street.
“Want some bubble tea?” he asked her.
“Of course I do,” she said waving her Parada handbag in the air.
Kris went to a nearby street store and ordered two bubble teas.
“Eunsuk stop or I won’t get you anything!” he heard a familiar voice from behind him. He turned around immediately. It was you getting angry at your little one. He felt a slight twinge in his heart. ‘Oh so she got married again..’ he wondered.
You held your son’s hand and began walking. Kris turned around to get his order.
“Mommy! Why don’t I have a daddy and everybody else does?” Eunsuk suddenly asked you. You were surprised at his sudden question. The memories of four years ago started coming back but you repressed them instantly. That is what you had been doing for so long. You, however could never forgive yourself for one thing and that was your son living without a father. A little part of you regretted not telling Kris. Maybe he would have come after you and stopped you but then you shrugged the feeling away. He wasn’t going to come. If he cared, he would have come looking for you regardless.
“Shhhh,” you glared at your son and began walking.
Kris turned around once again hoping to get a glimpse of you but you and his son were long gone and he was never going to know about it.

“Hey, hey, hey be careful. Don’t pick that up.” Suho lunged towards you and grabbed the pile of books.
“They’re not that heavy Suho,” you said, trying to calm him.
“I don’t care if they’re not heavy. You’re in your 8th month and I want our little princess to be perfectly safe.”
“Oh Gosh!,” you sighed and settled on the couch. An idea suddenly crossed your mind. “Hey, wait does that mean if I ask you to cook dinner tonight because I’m tired, you’ll do it?” you asked with a cheeky smile on your face.
He chuckled and then scratched his head. “Sure!”
“Okay, then surprise me with something,” you winked at him.
He sighed and slowly walked into the kitchen. You couldn’t help but smile at his innocence. He had been treating you like this ever since your 6 month started. You were really enjoying this. Memories of his first reaction when you told him you were pregnant started coming back. The file that he had been holding in his hand fell on the ground out of surprise. His teary eyes scanned your face to see if you were bluffing but you weren’t. You really were pregnant and he was going to become a father. Both of you had waited for this moment long enough. His second reaction was to call the boys and give them the good news and make them jealous. Indeed, they were jealous but also very happy for the two of you.
“_________,” Suho waved his hand into your face.
“Huh!?” you shook your head. You didn’t even realize that he had been standing there for the past five minutes staring at you smile into blank space.
“What were you thinking about?”
“Oh nothing,” you said shaking your head. He offered his hand to you and placed the other one behind your back to give you support.
The two of you walked towards the table. The dinner plate was covered with another plate.
“Okay, please don’t get mad at me okay?” he said closing one of his eyes and slowly replacing the lid. You chuckled.
“Scrambled eggs?” you said.
“Ye, I don’t know how to make anything else so I tried to make an omelet but then I flipped it and it broke so I made scrambled eggs,” he said in one breath. You were looking at him with the biggest smile on your face, instead of responding.
“What?” he shrugged his shoulders. You shook your head and leaned in to give him a kiss.
“I love you so much,” you said pulling away.
“I love you too,” he replied.
*************************************************************
“Are you ready?” Suho asked for the fifth time.
“Give me one more minute,” you replied.
“I still don’t think you should go,” he said walking towards you. Concern and worry was clearly visible on his face.
“I’ll be fine,” you placed your hand on his chest to reassure him. “Besides we still have a month till the delivery so nothing will happen. I just really want our daughter to see you perform on such a big stage.”
A smile appeared on his face. “Alright, but be extra careful.”
**************************************************************
“Oh my God, you brought __________?” Chanyeol said excitedly while running towards you and Suho.
“Calm down oppa,” you tried to stop him.
“Yeah I warned her several times but she insisted,” Suho said with a serious tone. “Anyways, could you take her to the front row seats and have one of the assistants sit with her.”
“Oh Gosh! Suho relax,” you pouted.
“Come on _________,” Chanyeol offered his hand.
You could hear the fan girls cheering for Exo. It hurt your ears and you started having second thoughts about coming to the show.
“If you need anything, just ask one of the assistants and they’ll get it for you,” Chanyeol instructed before leaving.
The show soon started and after a while the Exo boys walked up on the stage. The music started and the guys began dancing. This was going to be their good bye performance for their album since the new once was coming out soon. You clapped your hands like the other fan girls as the guys danced. Suho was busy with the performance. He didn’t look at you at all. You waved your hands in the air and closed your eyes to enjoy the music.
“Aaaaa ouch,” you cried in pain suddenly. You looked down and realized that your water broke and you were in labor. The assistant panicked and held your hand.
“Aaaaaaaah,” you cried again. Your eyes searched for Suho. He was looking right back at you. It was his queue but he missed the beat. He was panicking on stage. Kai looked at him and then at you. He covered up for Suho and pushed him to go help you.
You drifted in and out of consciousness. You were confused, why it was happening so early and why it hurt so much. You felt two strong hands grab you and after that everything blacked out.
*******************************************************
“__________, wake up, wake up,” you heard someone say repeatedly. It was Suho’s voice. You opened your eyes and a hazy image of him walking besides you appeared. The doors opened, the nurses took you inside and instructed Suho to stay outside.
“She can’t push. Her body’s too weak,” you heard one of the nurses yell.
“C section?” the other one questioned. Your eyes closed once again.
********************************************************
“_________,” a soft voice called your name. You opened your eyes and this time you could see a little better. Suho was standing besides the bed holding your little princess.
“How long was I a sleep?” you asked with a meek voice.
“A while,” he said sitting beside you. “Do you want to hold her?”
You nodded. Suho helped you sit up and then placed your daughter in your arms. You couldn’t believe it. She was a part of you till yesterday and now she was in front of your eyes. Her beautiful little red cheeks, pink lips and rosy red skin made you cry. Suho wiped your tears and then his own.
“Let’s name her Ruby,” he said.
“That’s a beautiful name,” you said running your finger on her cheeks.
“I’m sorry I messed up your performance,” you said remembering what had happened earlier.
“It’s alright. The boys handled it pretty well.” Suho gave you a kiss on your temple.
“Can we come in now,” Beakhyun poked his head inside and asked impatiently.
You and Suho both chuckled.
“I’ll hold her first!” Chanyeol announced.
“But I already called dibs,” Kyungsoo pouted.
You and Suho couldn’t help but laugh at them. Together, you all were a one big happy family.

You looked at the door and then your watch. Kris was supposed to meet you at the coffee shop an hour earlier. The waiter came up to you twice and even he was getting frustrated. There were more people waiting in the line to be seated.
“Ma’am do you want to order something?” he asked you for the third time.
“Huh! Aaa no I’m fine,” you said sounding completely lost.
“I’m afraid we are going to have to tell you to leave then. There are a lot of people waiting in line,” he said with an apologetic face.
“Oh,” you sighed in embarrassment. “Alright, I guess I’ll just leave then,” you mumbled while getting up. Just then Kris walked in. You were happy for a second but the feeling was quickly replaced by anger. Kris walked towards you timidly. He knew you were mad since you were glaring at him.
“I’m really sorry,” he said nervously.
“It’s alright,” you said trying to calm yourself and walked right past him.
“__________, wait” he followed you out of the coffee shop. “I’m really sorry,” he said catching up to you.
“I said, it’s alright!” you said sounding even more mad this time.
“Umma didn’t let me leave. Believe me I tried.” He said once again.
“It’s the same excuse every time isn’t it?” you suddenly snapped back. Kris tried to put his hands on your shoulder but you shrugged them off. “Why don’t you just tell them? Things will be so much better if they know.”
“You know if I tell them what’s going to happen. Why would you say such a thing?”
“Because I’m tired of this Kris. I really am!”
Instead of yelling back Kris tried to calm himself. Firstly because you guys were standing in the middle of the street, secondly because he knew that it was his fault for keeping you waiting for an hour and finally because he wanted to avoid the topic you’d just started.
“Okay, how do you want me to make it up to you?” he asked rather softly. Your anger melted too a little bit. You’d seen him after so long, you didn’t want to fight either.
“I don’t know,” you sighed but frustration was still visible on your face.
“I’m in the mood for some .. BUBBLE TEA,” Kris said trying to sound excited. He knew bubble tea always cheered you up. He was right. It did work. Your mood changed. He put his arm around and the two of you walked to your favorite shop.
*****************************************
Kris stared at you with a big smile on his face as you gulped your bubble tea.
“What?” you chuckled and hit him on his hand.
“Nothing,” he said shaking his head as if embarrassed of getting caught for staring at you. He couldn’t control his smile.
“Let’s go somewhere on your birthday this year!” he said suddenly.
“Where?” you asked.
“I don’t know. Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong. Where ever you want to go.”
“Really?” you asked excitedly.
“Ye,” he nodded.
“Hong Kong!—I want to hear you speak Canto,” you winked.
“Hong Kong it is then!” Kris announced. “But it’ll have to be a short trip. Starting next month, I’ll have a lot of schedules so we can’t spend a lot of time there.”
“What are you going to tell your parents?”
“Ahh, I’ll figure something out.”
“Alright,” you nodded.
*************************************************************
You couldn’t sleep. You felt your heart sink at the sound of the thunderstorm. Your instinct was telling you that something bad was about to happen. Shuffling restlessly in bed, you tried to calm yourself. You stayed in that state for two hours then sleep started taking over you. You clenched the sheet tightly and closed your eyes.
A half hour later, you felt someone slip in the bed besides you. You weren’t afraid because this wasn’t the first time Kris had done this. He usually came to visit late at night.
“I’m so glad you came,” you mumbled. He kissed you on your neck.
“Me too,” he murmured.
You felt something wet on your bare shoulder but you didn’t take enough notice. Then slowly, you heard Kris’s sniffles. The very next instant, you sat up.
“What’s wrong?” you asked trying to find his face in the dark. Kris didn’t respond. You turned on the side lamp so you could see what was wrong. Kris’s eyes were red and puffy. He hadn’t just started crying. It seemed like he’d been crying for a long time.
“What’s wrong oppa?” you asked once again. Kris didn’t respond but instead looked away.
“Oppa! Please tell me what’s wrong? You’re scaring me!” you squeezed his hand.
“Umma saw us together at the Bubble Tea shop the other day,” he said slowly. You felt like somebody had put a huge rock on your heart and crushed it. You knew his mother hated you. In fact his entire family hated you and your family. If your brother hadn’t run away with his sister, things would have been much better for the two of you. Kris was saying something but you couldn’t make sense of his words. Your teary eyes were fixed at his shaking body.
“____________,” he shook you.
“Ye,” you said shaking your head.
“Umma and Appa, were really mad. I’ve never seen them this mad.”
“Did you try to convince them?” you asked, without any hope.
He nodded. “I did, but they didn’t listen.”
You felt like your throat was getting dry. Your vision was blurred by the tears flowing down your cheeks. “So what does it mean?”
“I have to go __________,” Kris said trying to free his hand from your strong grip.
“No! oppa,” you whispered.
“I’m sorry __________,” he said getting up.
“You can’t do this. You know I can’t live without you.” you caught hold of his hand once again.
Kris kept shaking his head. “You know I love you ___________ and I always will but we can’t be together. I can’t go against their will.”
“We can convince them, together.”
“It’s not that simple!” he freed himself from you and began to leave. You could feel the world crashing as his hands slipped out of yours. Kris stopped by the door and came back to you. He kissed you on your lips. You knew it was going to be your last one. You could taste his salty tears and he, yours.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered pulling away. Before you could stop him, Kris left.
You collapsed on the ground and buried your face in your hands. The storm in your heart was much stronger than the howling wind outside.

You passed your days staring into blank space. Your friends cried at your condition. They’d called Kris many times but he never picked up.
“_________ snap out of it,” your friend shook you. “It’s your birthday today. Let’s go out?”
**FLASHBACK**
‘Let’s go somewhere on your birthday this year!” he said suddenly.
“Where?” you asked.
“I don’t know. Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong. Where ever you want to go.”
“Really?” you asked excitedly.
“Ye,” he nodded.
A tear rolled down your cheek. You turned to your friend. “He promised me he would take me to Hong Kong on my birthday.”
“He’s not in your life anymore _________,” she said pulling you into a hug. You began crying. You cried a lot but it didn’t make you feel any better.
You wanted to give it one last try therefore you decided to go Kris’s house and beg his parents. You didn’t care about yourself respect. All you wanted was to be with him.

You hesitated before knocking on the door. To your surprise, instead of one of Kris’s family members showing up, Luhan opened the door. You looked at him with questioning eyes.
“Where’s Kris?” you asked clearing your throat.
“____________, you shouldn’t be here.”
“I know but just let me talk to him once.”
“No I mean it. Kris is getting married soon. Go!” he said, sternly.
You had not seen that coming. “What?” you gasped.
Luhan nodded apologetically. “If his mother sees you here, God knows what will happen. So please go,” he insisted closing the door on you.
A few days ago, you felt like somebody had ripped your heart out of your body. You were wrong. What you felt today was incomparable to any pain you’d received in the 23 years of your life.
This was it. It really was.
**************************************************************
8 years later
You hated walking to work in the winters but you really didn’t have a choice. The little money you earned from the bubble tea shop you’d opened a few years ago was not enough for you to buy yourself a car. You fixed your glasses and wrapped your coat tightly around you.
“So how was last night?” your friend suddenly appeared from behind you and asked.
“Oh my God, you scared me,” you said holding your hand close to your chest.
“Ahaha, sorry.”
The two of you began walking again.
“Tell me,” she asked again, nudging your elbow.
“Ah, it was okay but he really isn’t my type. “ you wrinkled your nose.
She hit you on the shoulder. “This is why you won’t ever get a guy.”
“I’m absolutely fine with that,” you said with the fake smile that you’d been giving for the past eight years. The two of you reached the store. You unlocked the door and went inside.
“At least move near the city. It’s more lively there. Your business will be much better too.” She nagged you as usual. You sighed and listened to her with a smile on your face. This had been your morning routine ever since you’d opened the store.
“Hey’ I’m going to need you to do me a favor.” You asked her. She turned around and looked at you.
“We’re running out of tapioca. I couldn’t go last night because somebody had set me up on a blind date,” you said giving her a look. “So I want you to get them.”
“Okay but it’ll take me some time,” she said walking out the door.
It had been two hours and your friend hadn’t returned. You were regretting sending her. Nobody really came in the mornings. You were busy doing the math for the month’s budget when someone walked in.
“We don’t have tapioca so we won’t be able to serve bubble tea. Is there anything else you want?” you asked without looking up.
“Ummm, hot chocolate would be fine,” the person said. The voice was familiar. Very familiar. You instantly looked up. Kris was standing right before you looking at the menu on the wall. You turned around immediately to hide your face but more importantly to hide your tears. All those years that you’d kept them inside of you; they were coming out at his sudden appearance.
“Are you okay Ma’am?” Kris asked upon hearing your sniffles.
You covered your mouth and nodded.
“____________!” Kris whispered your name. He knew it was you. He remembered the fragrance you wore everyday and the way you cried softly.
You began to walk towards the kitchen but he held your hand and turned you around. You felt like everything around you had stopped for a second. You had wished for this moment for so long, that you didn’t think it was ever going to come true. Kris had teary eyes too. He kept repeating your name again and again and hugged you. You pulled away.
“Go home Kris,” you said angrily.
“__________ please listen to me.” He said holding your hand.
“No!” you shook your hand even though your heart said yes.
****************************************************
Your eyes moved from here to there. The cold wind kept hitting your face, making you want to cry even more.
“Why did you bring me here?” you asked keeping your eyes fixed on the ground.
Kris didn’t respond. You peeked at his face. He was looking at you with the same loving smile from years ago. You could never tell what was behind that smile. The smile suddenly disappeared and remorse took over. He swallowed a spit in his dry throat to get himself ready to speak.
“Where had you been all these years?”
“Does it matter anymore?” you asked after a while. You looked at him for a brief second and then looked away. You were ashamed of the wrinkles on your face and your eyes bags. You weren’t young anymore but he still looked young and fresh. You’d done this to yourself but you didn’t regret any moment of it.
“Married?” he asked.
You weren’t sure what to say. You knew well that Kris was married and he probably had a three year old child waiting at home for him. After a while, you shook your head. A smile broke on his face but you didn’t see it.
“Dated?” he asked again.
“Once for two months,” you said. Knowing the answer already you still asked him. “What about you?”
“Still single.” He replied after a long pause.
His answer had surprised you. You looked at him with your eyes wide open.
“But..” you began to say.
“Didn’t work out,” he complete for you, shaking his head. You felt like some sort of weight had been lifted from your heart. If you weren’t happy than neither was he. He was just as miserable as you. Who’s fault was it though? His parents? Who had ruined your life. Two people who loved each other so much were separated and neither of them were happy. There youth had faded. The time that they were suppose to spend with each other was lost now and it could never come back. Tears were coming back again but this time you controlled them.
“I have to go now.” you said fixing your glasses and getting up. Kris didn’t stop you. He had walked out of your life in the same way. His heart poked him repeatedly to call after you but his lips seemed to be locked.
**********************************************************
The next morning was surprisingly pleasant. Still struggling to forget the previous day’s events you walked to the store.
“Ahhh where are the keys,” you said in frustration, while shuffling your handbag. Your eyes fell on a small envelope by the door. You leaned down and picked it up. It wasn’t sealed. Two papers revealed as you opened it. It was a ticket and the other paper read a message – ‘I still owe you a trip to Hong Kong’.
A smile broke on your face. All the convincing that you’d done the night before, that what you did was right didn’t mean anything anymore. Your heart wanted to be with him. Without thinking twice, you began walking back home.
Two hands pulled you into an alley and the next instant your lips were connected to the very familiar soft lips. You could taste the salty tears except that this time they were tears of joy. You could feel him smiling. You were smiling too. It wasn’t his fault or your fault but if fate was giving you two another chance, you were going to grab it with both hands.
